#28 - Effective Social Entrepreneurship with Swee Lin Lee The WowFactor Podcast with Samuel Kamugisha

    • Business

In this 28th episode of the WowFactor Podcast, I feature Swee Lin Lee, one of the founders of PichaEats - an Impact-Driven Enterprise that rebuilds the lives of refugees in Malaysia through a sustainable food business. She majored in Finance and left her full-time job to start this business with her partners back in 2016, after witnessing the financial struggles among the refugee community.

Within a short span of 5 years, PichaEats has served more than 300,000 meals, reaching a total of RM 3.5 million in revenue, with 50% of the total amount going back to the community. In 2018, PichaEats made it as the national winner for Chivas Venture 2018 in Malaysia and was announced to be one of the Top 5 Winners Globally in Amsterdam. In June 2018, PichaEats was also announced as the global champion for the “Empowering Future Generation” award in Germany.

Swee Lin and her co-founders have also been listed in Forbes 30 under 30 in 2018 and were awarded THE EDGE Inspiring Young Leaders Award, Prestige 40 under 40 Malaysia Malaysia and Zico’s ASEAN 40 under 40 - to name a few. Currently, she holds the role of both the COO & Product Development of the company, ensuring all operations and products run smoothly.

In this interview with Swee Lin, we go in-depth on:

Unmasking effective social entrepreneurship.
The current state of social entrepreneurship in Malaysia and how it can be improved.
The founding journey of PichaEats, its challenges and solutions.
