I recently experienced turbulence on my flight to the Maldives and I immediately began to go into survival mode; I had to coach myself through the flight by changing my perspective of the situation. Today I share my experience and 3 tips that can help you move through turbulence in your own life. With a simple shift in perspective you can radically improve your confidence and clarity under pressure.
Reflection: honoring the experience [1:20] Fear of flying [2:30] Intense turbulence on the plane [3:58] Survival brain [4:30] Step 1: Remember that this is temporary, this is going to end [5:46] Step 2: Play a game, imagine yourself somewhere more comfortable [7:40] Step 3: How would you act if you knew it would be ok? [9:50] Do not allow Turbulence to dictate how you show up [13:00]
“So often people go their whole life anticipating and only focusing on the ten minutes of turbulence.” [5:53]
“Remembering that this is temporary, it’s also something that can keep you really grateful in the moments that times are going really well is remembering that this is also temporary.” [6:48]
“The more I Game-ify life, it helps me have a greater level of appreciation and curiosity and inquisitiveness around how do I actually want to show up for this, and now taking it so seriously.” [9:15]
“If you have so much certainty about the outcome the journey to get there doesn't seem so jarring.” [11:00]
“If I allowed 10 or 20 minutes of uncomfortability to dictate my willingness to show up on the journey or on that plane, that to me is such a sad life.” [13:25]
