Paid ads: busting myths on making returns Let's Talk Startups

    • Entrepreneurship

Hold onto your seats, because in this episode we’re talking to Isaac Twidale, paid-advertising-extraordinaire and pro at all things adverts. He’s here to dispel the myths and give us a crash course on how to make our money matter. From revealing the big secrets advertisers don’t want you to know, to the most common pitfalls, he’s here to shake up all you thought you knew about advertising.

In building his own brand, We Do Ads, Isaac has experienced first-hand all of the frustrations and confusion of advertising on a budget. Fortunately, these are hurdles he knows how to overcome. It’s hard graft, and the world of advertising can be a cruel mistress, but consistency is key, as is understanding your process and aims.

Nargis and Demos will be kicking the conversation off by quizzing our expert guest on when to use paid advertisements, and how to do it well. Every marketplace is different, so how do you capture demand, and how is this different to meeting a latent demand competitively? What happens when the marketplace is saturated, and how do you know whether your advertising is making conversions? What does success even look like?!

Thankfully, Isaac has a handle on analysing and utilising data in your advertising tactics. There are many platforms out there, but spreading yourself too thinly might mean that you don’t make a splash anywhere. It’s better to make a tidal wave on one platform, than to be a drop in the ocean on several.

Isaac will also be shedding light on the dingy topic of website traffic. He's debunking the ‘bigger is better’ myth, because higher numbers does not equal higher quality. Better to have one returning customer visiting your website, than one hundred with no interest in purchasing your product. But can you trust your click statistics?

Well, we’ll be finding out about that too, as well as the best way to track this data, and translate it into applicable actions. We’re talking building monetizable relationships with customers, through a good business, a good website, and a good understanding of who your target market is.

In fact, we think we might even test our unwitting guest with a particularly challenging target market: the emperor penguins. There aren’t many people who could convince this particular crowd to relocate to Kenya, but if anyone can, it’s Isaac. If you want to know how he’ll be using TikTok, Kemperor Jenner, webinars and a penguin mentoring scheme to make the move happen, tune in and let’s talk startups (and penguins!).

Using paid advertising can feel daunting, especially when you’re worried about getting a good return on your budget. With Isaa
