36. RNMD: COVID Nutrition and Ventilation Settings with Dr. Anozie & Stephanie Schwartz RD RNMD

    • Society & Culture

This is an episode we weren't sure we would release. Let us be clear, it's amazing. But this episode was recorded in January, before the general public had access to the vaccine. As the public got vaccinated, and many continuing to mask and social distance..  I think we were all hopeful this summer would show low COVID numbers. As time passed, we thought maybe this episode might not be relevant as many HCWs reported low or zero COVID patients on their units. Unfortunately, areas of the country with high numbers of unvaccinated communities are exploding with COVID cases.

Thank you to Dr. Anozie and Stephanie Schwartz MS, RD for offering a wealth of knowledge on this complicated subject

We'd like to acknowledge the loss of Ebi from @NurselifeRN and @Ebi_Eats. We are sincerely sorry for this tragic loss. He will be deeply missed by the community. We offer our deep love and respect for his family at this difficult time.

Please note, Abby uses the word "dietary" to refer to Registered Dietitians several times this episode. She was so thankful when after the episode Stephanie corrected her, as the word dietary is outdated and not the proper term

Topics:

Dietary vs Dietitian
Are residuals important?
Trickle feeds
Paralyzed patients and peristalsis
Vent settings: volume control vs pressure control
PRVC Mode
Is Vital AF the best name for tube feed ever? (Yes)
Good & bad interactions between RNs, Physicians, and RDs
