Based on the book by Nikos Kazantzakis with a screenplay from Paul Schrader, the film received one Oscar nomination for Best Director for Scorsese and a Grammy for the soundtrack titled PASSION composed by musician Peter Gabriel. The film stars Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, David Bowie, and Harry Dean Stanton.
