39 #StopAsianHate — Sharing Stories, Speaking Up and Taking A Stand‪!‬ The Power of the Only

    • Personal Journals

"Representation matters, breaking down stereotypes matters, how you report the news matters, speaking up matters, and standing against hate matters!" - Angela Chee
How can we use our power of The Only to combat racism and hatred?
Anti-Asian incidents are on the rise. In the last year alone, the United States reported about 3,800 anti-Asian hate incidents, with 2.3 times more incidents involving Asian women. Now we are grappling with the shootings in Atlanta this past week which left eight people dead — six of whom were Asian women.
As an Asian American woman, these events deeply sadden me. I believe it is paramount at times like this to continue to share our stories, speak up, and take a stand for the things we believe in.
"We can turn our pain and fear into power." - Angela Chee
In today's episode, I share a very personal story that I’ve only opened up about once before, I discuss ways to stay empowered if you have experienced hate, how to help if you witness it, how all of us can continue to stand against hate and why it matters for you and your personal journey.
I also talk about the Asian American experience in the United States and why it is so important to keep telling our stories.
“Experiencing racism is not new to me.” - Angela Chee
