40. Floods: Lismore The Town That Went Under The World Uncut

We are a month removed from the flooding of Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the hard hit Northern New south Wales community, and on this return episode, host Saeg brings on Gabi to discuss the plight of Lismore, one of the, if not the, hardest hit communities by the 2022 floods. 

Not since records have been kept has Northern NSW community Lismore had a bigger flooding event than this. 4 weeks removed from the floods that saw a huge portion of the town completely under water we discuss the events of that day, and how the earlier than expected breach of the levy led to chaos. The end result; 4 dead, and a town decimated by floods. Large portions of Lismore still do not have power, over 2000 homes have been deemed uninhabitable and there is in excess of 110,000 tonnes of waste that needs to be removed.

We discuss the slow response of government, the local communities emotions and appetite to start again and most importantly, bring attention to the help still needed for this community to rebuild. 

Also Saeg gives some very brief thoughts on the Russia Ukraine invasion and Gabi throws her two cents in on this at the end!
