449 | Are You Flexing Your Receiving Muscle?‪ ‬ Own Your Choices Own Your Life

    • Self-Improvement

In this episode, this is a shout out episode to anyone who needs to create a shift on the common phrase that it is “better to give than receive.” Yes, giving is an incredible feeling and we need more humans giving to each other without any expectation or attachments in return.  However we are creating this energy of not allowing ourselves to receive and not fully understanding how it is holding us back in our relationships, life and yes in business. Giving and receiving are part of a karmic cycle, they go together, they are two halves of the same coin.  I would argue that you can’t do one without the other.

In this episode, we discuss:
1) Let’s start with you are enough and it is safe for you to receive.  You are worthy of all the compliments, praise and financial abundance just because you are here. It is not weakness, it is not that you can’t do it on your own, it is that we are not meant to do this life alone and believing that we are leaves us in a state of isolation, despair and frustration. Prioritizing giving over receiving may feel like it keeps you safe and others at a safe distance yet this can become very isolating.

2) Receiving is an exercise, an experience that might feel incredibly new and uncomfortable to you. It is actually a muscle that needs to be worked, to be flexed to become stronger. This can start as simple as buying yourself flowers, practicing gratitude for recognizing all that is available for you to receive and simply saying thank you without deflecting back on someone else. If you respond out of guilt you are negating that person’s compliment.

3) If it is so important why don’t we do it more?  Childhood upbringing, being told that is selfish to receive or a sign of weakness to even ask for help. Receiving also creates connections that can leave us feeling open, vulnerable and exposed.  That is scary!
