This week Chris and I are joined by James Jopling from the British Heart Foundation and amongst other things he's tasked with reducing premature cardiovascular disease (CVD) deaths in Scotland, which account for 22% of all premature deaths.
James has spent the vast majority of his career in the 3rd sector and his career has followed the areas he has had a real passion for. His impressive career has included roles with Samaritans and Shelter, and it was great to dig into his motivations for moving into the 3rd sector and his various roles within it.
British Heart Foundation
CVD deaths still account for over 22% of all premature deaths in Scotland yet most of the great work to reduce this is funded outside of the NHS. The downstream cost impact of CVD in healthcare is estimated to be £800 million, whilst the economic impact is more than double that.
That means donations from you and me are really the only thing helping to reduce the impact of CVD in Scotland and across the UK.
