5 Minutes To Save The Earth Ray Katz

Art plays a critical role in shaping the world and the future. To save our planet from climate collapse and to defeat those who are destroying Nature, we need visions of how this might come about. This is a story I wrote some weeks back, providing one example of such a vision. In it, Greta Thunberg inspires children worldwide to go beyond skipping school on Fridays. They take meaningful and unstoppable action, and secure their own future—leaving the so-called powerful people—ultra rich plutocrats and politicians they fund—utterly helpless.

The ultra-rich people who seem powerful, and who are destroying Nature and our common future for personal profit live in protective cocoons. As such, they are not brave; they are cowards. They have not needed courage, or even ability. They fulfill the roles that birth and fate has set for them. We will use our courage to defeat their foolish actions. We will save Nature, save our children, save our opponents children, and even save our opponents. Moral force is more powerful than violence.

The arts nearly always play a critical role in changing the world. Our current crises is no exception. We needs the arts to deliver strong messages that make people THINK and FEEL. In November 2023, the official climate conference COP 28 will be held in Abu Dhabi. The chairman of that conference is the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. He is planning to increase the oil output of his company from 4 billions barrels per day to 5 billion per day by 2030.

He is not a climate hero. The conference is being run by the world's most egregious climate criminals in an attempt to conceal their ongoing crimes. We should not remain silent.

We can hold our own conferences, dozens of them, in parks around the world We can tell the truth and strategize openly about our plans to thwart the destruction of our biosphere. We should. This is a view of how and why we should hold these conferences.

All of us who care about the Earth and the future have a role to play in ending the climate crisis. Some of us will be early activists, a relatively small group that lights the spark of change. Other, most of the others, will join once the spark is lit. They will be the inferno. They will force the change we need. What is YOUR role?
