During the brutal fighting on the Eastern front during the Second World War, the city of Leningrad was put under siege. Soviet citizens had to endure freezing temperatures, starvation, disease, and cannibalism to survive. In the midst of this suffering, a small enclave of Soviet scientists did what they could to protect a massive collection of seeds in order to save countless future human lives.
