Take Your Power Back with Myra Van Ry (Trauma Survivor) | Ep 64 You Get What I'm Saying

    • Personal Journals

Trigger Warning: sexual abuse and suicidal thoughts. Listener discretion is advised.

While scrolling Instagram one night, I ran across a reel that made me stop in my tracks. An organization I have been following and supporting for years called Together We Rise re-shared (with permission) a TikTok video posted by Myra Van Ry, in which she shared briefly about her journey from growing up within a broken foster care system where she is today – starting her career journey as a first-generation college student entering one of the top pharmacy schools in the nation. I immediately messaged Myra and asked if she’d be willing to share her story on the podcast to inspire others, and I am beyond grateful that she accepted my invitation.

Our conversation was real, honest, raw, and vulnerable, with Myra sharing insight into her experience within the foster system, adoption into a cult that discouraged education past 8th grade, self-educating herself into college, the unthinkable sexual trauma she endured throughout her childhood, and how she overcame the suicidal thoughts that could have ended her life – all with a selfless and powerful mission of inspiring and empowering others. In Myra’s words, “If you ever doubt yourself, DON’T. YOU have the willpower and tenacity to achieve your goals.”
