69: Mindfulness in Coaching with Patricia Thompson, PhD STaR Coach Show

    • Entrepreneurship

Having a daily mindfulness practice can alter our perception in just about every area of life. We often use mindfulness as a calming or centering practice for our clients, but have you ever stopped to consider it as another coaching tool? Dr. Patricia Thompson visits the show to speak on her experiences combining executive coaching with mindfulness and the power it brings to her executive coaching practice.  In her consulting work with Silver Lining Psychology, Patricia introduces mindfulness as a practice that can be built into leadership.

Mindfulness is a simple practice of paying attention to thoughts and feelings without judgment.  Patricia does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to mindfulness. She acknowledges our unique cognitive differences and offers practical methods to make the practice our own. As coaches, we have the ability to showcase the power of mindfulness to anyone. We can encourage our clients to take the time out of their busy days to become centered and tap into that inner wisdom. This can lead to increased confidence, a balanced schedule, and lowered stress.

I will often say on this show that “heal thyself” is one of the most important guiding principles of a good coach. As Patricia illustrates the power of mindfulness for her clients, we can also take the principles we are learning and use them in our own daily lives. Let’s allow ourselves the time to slow down and practice mindfulness.
