Dale Murphy is an American former Major League Baseball player. During his 18-year career (1976-1993), he played for the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and Colorado Rockies. Murphy is best noted for his many years with the Braves. He won the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 1982 and 1983 (one of only four outfielders in MLB history to win consecutive MVP awards!), the Silver Slugger Award as the best hitting player at his position four straight years (1982 - 1985), and the Gold Glove Award (best defensive player at his position) five straight years (1982-1986). He is a members of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. Murphy is a devout Mormon and, along with his wife Nancy, led nearly 600 young missionaries in the Boston area. Dale and Nancy have 8 kids and 15 grandsons, and he is actively involved in several business ventures. Dale is known for his work ethic, humility, and giving heart, and when being a tremendous family man.
