As noted in the last episode of this podcast, sexual health is one topic of the National Sexuality Education Standards. Yet what specific things can we talk to young people about that relates to this topic? The answer is everyday germ transmission and personal hygiene skills! To help explain these basics, Dr. Adjoa Smalls-Mantey joins this episode to talk with the Puberty Prof. Dr. Adjoa Smalls-Mantey, MD, DPhil, is a physician-scientist and writer. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center where she practices emergency psychiatry. Prior to her career in medicine, she conducted HIV immunology research for many years at several institutions including the National Institutes of Health and the University of Oxford. Dr. Smalls-Mantey speaks and writes about public and mental health, and has appeared several times on ABC News and Black News Channel. Her recent co-authored book is Anjali the Brave: All about Vaccines, where readers join Anjali on an inspirational journey as she learns about how vaccines work to keep us safe and healthy, and about the amazing scientists who created them.
