Diet Culture SUCKS and unfortunately, ideas from it are sometimes promoted from behind the pulpit.
What harmful message is being preached to congregational members, when a pastor pokes fun at their body weight? They are reinforcing Diet Culture mindsets that say there are wrong ways to have bodies, bad bodies, and that some body types and sizes are worthy of being made fun of because they are less than.
Or what happens when generalized and ridged nutrition advice is being endorsed by a pastor or church leader? Is not that going against God’s design of the human body to be unique? Truly there is NO ONE WAY of eating that will work for all humans, since we are all so different! Therefore, one diet being recommended from the pulpit is dangerous and dishonoring to God’s design of individuality!
