    Episode 0110—One Fleeting Day

On June 4, 1944,  American forces took possession of Rome under the command of Lt. General Mark Clark.  In taking the undefended Italian capital, Clark's decision allowed the German Tenth Army to escape and inflict substantial casualties on Allied forces in the coming months.   The capture of Rome was soon replaced in the headlines with the Allied landings on D-Day at Normandy on June 6th.

How might the course of the war in Europe had been different if Clark had elected a different course of action?

On May 28, 1754, a small clash occurred in modern-day western Pennsylvania between British colonial forces and the French army.  It sparked the conflict that came to be known as the French and Indian War and the global Seven Years War.

How might history have been different without this conflict?

    Episode 0105—The Lime Lobby

    Episode 0105—The Lime Lobby

On Cinco de Mayo, many Americans have come to embrace it as an excuse to indulge in quality Mexican cuisine and to imbibe an imported Mexican cerveza or margarita, but many do not know or realize the event commemorated on that date or how, ironically, it is far more potentially important to the course of American history than they realize.   How would the course of not just Mexican history, but that of its neighbor to the north and even that of 19th century Europe, if the Mexican forces had not defeated those of the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862?

Cyn Lat ,

I’m not really interested in history, but I enjoy this podcast.

I’m a bit biased because Don is my brother-in-law and Alexis is my niece, and I probably wouldn’t have stumbled on this podcast were it not for that relationship. Nonetheless, I continue listening not because of familial obligations but because the content is interesting and they present history in a totally different light Plus, it’s obvious they have researched the topics in advance because they always offer some interesting insights. If my high school history teachers had taken a similar approach, perhaps I wouldn’t have to rely on a podcast to discover that history can be interesting. Thanks, Don and Alexis!

Great to see!

Great stuff! Measured, well reasoned speculation that does a great job at avoiding extreme political preaching and instead treats history with a professional, moderate approach.
Interesting propositions, including some classic what ifs and many listeners might not have thought of!
