We live in a noisy world. For followers of Jesus, it can be a challenge to hear his voice — the voice of the Shepherd that his sheep are supposed to be able to recognize.

This podcast is called A Listening Life, and it is created to help us recognize the voice of God in the midst of life that is often chaotic and unsettling. In each short episode, Tracy Balzer leads listeners through the time-tested spiritual practice of lectio divina — a guided time of listening to the word of God slowly and prayerfully.

If you feel your life of faith has been characterized by too much doing and very little being, of too much noise and not enough quiet, then this is the podcast for you. The word of God is our bread for life. We only need to listen.

    Philippians 4 (S11E07)

    Philippians 4 (S11E07)

This season on a listening life we are focusing on growing in gratitude. Gratitude is more than being grateful, although it is certainly that. Gratitude can be seen more as a posture we adopt. A way of life, that routinely recognizes our absolute dependence on God. Our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. As always we will read a passage of Scripture 3 times, and each time will be followed by a space of silence, for your silent and prayerful reflection in between. So listen now, with the ear of your heart.

Reflective

It’s amazing and powerful to listen to Scripture read more than once and to have some time to reflect and pray through it. I’ll definitely be listening to this a lot!

Spiritual Discipline in a busy world

This podcast is not like others. It has no intention of informing, lecturing, or occupying your mind. The goal I believe is the opposite. Each episode leads you through an ancient Christian spiritual practices called “Sacred Reading”. It is a time to listen and be still as a passage of scripture is read to you 3 times with prompts on how to listen and reflect well. This is perfect for the person who is wanting some help refining the spiritual practice of meditating on scripture or the busy Christian working to find space in their day for stillness. The experience is a breath of fresh air.
