A Year of Listening Podcast is designed to reclaim the lost art of civil, compassionate, and nuanced conversation about a variety of polarizing topics. In short, we’re tackling all the topics your mother warned you not to discuss at cocktail parties. The goal of this show is to help people understand the very personal experiences that often guide our beliefs in the hopes that this expands our compassion and empathy for those who believe differently than us. I have no doubt that in every episode a listener will hear something with which he wholeheartedly disagrees. But, I also believe that if one keeps listening, he will also hear something with which he agrees. It is my hope that the conversations in this podcast will give listeners opportunities to keep listening, to practice empathy and to widen the narrow holds we have on our own perspectives to make room for someone else’s.

Can I Give This More Than 5 Stars?

I love this podcast. Your latest had me irritated in a good way! I’ll be honest, I always have a very hard time hearing someone share about downward mobility when they grew up middle class but I thought you held that tension in your interview really well. You’re a great host! Can’t wait to hear more!

Get ready !

This is a brilliant show that sheds light on the 'taboo' topics that normally get overlooked in most conversations. I greatly appreciate how easy going Colleen is and how her guests joyously share their insight. Thank you for unlocking so many doors that are ready to swing open and be heard with ears wide open!

Great conversations

My favorite episodes so far have been: swearing, how to help, and gang leaders as saviors. I love the range of topics and the goal of the podcast which is to listen to opposing views. This can be hard for me so I'm learning a lot. Colleen leads the conversations so well. Keep up this hard and important work!
