Michael Fried who is a diamond buyers’ best friend

A feature length episode with Michael Fried, who is a diamond buyers’ best friend. Michael started in an admin role in a diamond manufacturing company. One day he was asked to cover for a diamond salesperson. This meant he was able to develop a relationship with the buyer which meant he secured a one-year training on diamonds.

Diamond value isn’t like Gold with trading, the number of varieties make it difficult to invest and trade. Although the price of diamonds has increased every decade.

The debate between laboratory and naturally grown diamonds is difficult and nuanced. There is very little difference between the two varieties but he can spot naturally grown diamonds when they are together.

Diamond Pro the business has a website for information, and he will visit to any client anywhere in the world to assist and enable clients to buy the best diamond. Michael has spent a lot of time being a secret shopper and visiting retail stores around the globe and provides this information on his website.

We talked about the manufacturing of diamonds in Africa and Michael talked about the difficulty to know which ones are blood diamonds. The diamond industry in Africa creates jobs for local people and alternatives like Russia also have human right concerns. He urged people not to avoid African diamonds.

Joseph O’Connor who is an author and executive coach

Joseph O’Connor who is an author and executive coach

A feature length episode with Joseph O’Connor who is an author and executive coach. This is a fascinating conversation about coaching from an experienced coach.
Joseph was a performer, teacher, and musician of the classical guitarist. He learnt important skills to develop as a performer and coach. After being a musician, he immersed himself in NLP and wrote several books on the subject. This was a starting point for his fascination in psychology of people.
As a coach he wants to help interesting people in the best way. He set up the International Coaching Community which has helped 16,000 coaches develop their skills and knowledge.
He has recently become fascinated by neuroscience and coaching. It is a complicated subject, and his book is trying to ‘iron out’ the difficulties and explain the subject in a clear way. This is new to coaching and understanding the brain can lead to insight coaching conversations.
We discuss the role of leaders in business and Joseph explains how he approaches an entrepreneur and a corporate business owner.
Joseph talks about how the brain is a prediction machine, how we use our experiences to create order and stability in the world. We often learn from our experiences and adapt our prediction machine so the brain can help predict the outcome of situations.
This will give you great insight into coaching and I know I’ve learnt things from this conversation.

Shelly O’Donovan, who is CEO of Authentic Influence Group.

Shelly O’Donovan, who is CEO of Authentic Influence Group.

A feature length episode with Shelly O’Donovan, who is CEO of Authentic Influence Group. We go deep into her expertise of non-verbals in conversation, but we start with her degree in Political Science. This experience designed much of her early career.
Shelly started as an intern working with politicians after university where she learnt about the practical side of politics with her theoretical knowledge.
We discussed her experience in healthcare system at Pennsylvania. She developed relationships to influence on state and federal level. Shelly was passionate about healthcare because it impacted everyone.
She moved to GSK role, which meant with more people and a bigger budget she could become laser focussed on issues. The difference was that she was highly regulated, and the content had to be signed off by a legal team.
Her role at Authentic Influence Group is based on non- verbals, and why it is so important. Salespeople are often natural with non-verbals, but it is something that can be taught.  We discussed the importance of the skill of listening to people.
We then go deep into communication through the pandemic period. Zoom has become the norm, but it has been a separator and a connecting vehicle in business. Now most people are going back to face to face and the role of open body language with masks was fascinating to talk about.
Lastly, the thing I took from this conversation was that we all influence people every day.
