Making Time to Manifest: Companion Episode

Lauren was my guest this time last year on the Abundant Parent Membership. Mom and creator of the I Am Journal, Lauren shared with us how to find time in your busy parenting day for that ultimate self-care habit of manifesting your desires.  Catch her workshop here: http://theabundantparent.com/make-time-to-manifest/

Whether you are manifesting a family culture of contentment, or physical experiences and objects, dedicated time to the practice of manifesting is a must.  Lauren created an incredible tool to help us stay accountable to ourselves when she created the I Am Journal.  And the proof is in the outcomes.

These monthly companion episodes I record have been so much fun for me.  I’ve been able to reflect not only on the role of these workshop topics in my life since I first discovered them, but also reflect upon the progress I’ve made over the last year since first recording the workshop podcasts. This month’s topic of manifesting and the Law of Attraction couldn’t be more proof of this progress.

I was first introduced to the Law of Attraction when the book, “The Secret” had become an international sensation. I loved it.  It resonated so strongly.  I took a lot of notes… ALL the notes.  And then the book went on the shelf, the notes were closed up in a journal that eventually was filed and boxed away. And I forgot all about the power I had to create my reality.  Surely this was due to the social and family conditioning engraved in my brain from childhood and reiterated in my life at that specific time, but I never created a practice of the lessons in the Secret, and so I forgot it.  Pretty much entirely.

Fast forward through having children, and the dissolve of my marriage into what was the darkest time of my life. Leaning hard into my victim mentality, I felt a loss of the control I perceived myself to have and clung tighter and tighter.  And just like the Universe does, it kept showing me it was time to let go and trust in this big beautiful undeniable power of love that is all around and with in us. The lessons felt more devastating each time until I become too tired and hopeless to consider any other option than to let go and trust. I was literally and consciously forced into my awakening (with the help of the messages of Abraham Hicks) . It was the worst.  And I am so grateful for it.

I learned through those times, lessons that have made my life abundant and satisfying.  They are:

    1) The only control we have in this lifetime is over our own thoughts, responses, expectations and vibrations. And we definitely can’t control anyone else’s actions, responses, or how they view us

I wasn’t always mindful.  As a teenager and young adult I would make fun of people with obvious deficiencies and I would make fun of myself, both out of my history of shame and worthlessness. There was a weird dichotomy between the me that lowered myself and others to compensate for my low self-esteem, and the me that took such pride in helping others in need. At different times one might have witnessed me and interpreted two different people. Looking back I attribute this to a searching for myself, searching for my place in the world, the acceptance of myself through the eyes of others, and a deep disconnect from my inner being, my soul.

It was in that idea of community and family that I learned to fit in.

I remember feeling such intense anguish as a teen.  Not in a desperate or depressed way, but in that I felt emotions so deeply. So when I felt low, I would pour myself into writing, singing and at and weep at the expression of it all. I know now that I was an empath taught to live through filters of admissible social conduct. But it was in that idea of community and family that I learned to fit in. And when I learned to fit, I learned to shut off my intuition and inner being.  I learned to shut off the very source of self  that was given to me to protect me and guide me to live my life’s purpose.

This is when I realized the truest sense of suffering.  This living of life with love as means of manipulation and desperate belongingness but not as the greatest guiding force in the Universe.  When we being to experience the loss of those closest to us, and we try to replace those connections with other people, we begin to understand the commodity of human emotions.  For me, losing my mom at 21 meant understanding there would never be a replacement for the unique love and bond that one shares with a loving parent. Having children helped me understand unconditional love void of ego, And going through a divorce meant understanding how quickly the perception of love can die.

When I began to awaken and embody the full force of mindfulness and consciousness it was when I was willing to take responsibility for the role I played in my understanding of ev...

Making An Essential Oil Toolbox: Companion Episode

Courtney was my guest on the Abundant Parent membership.  Catch her full workshop here: http://theabundantparent.com/making-an-essential-oil-toolbox/

Something I love doing is introducing parents to non-traditional tools to show them how they can support their family in addition to other measures they may be using or in some cases, prescribed.  Traditional and nontraditional tools can work beautifully together.   Essential oils are no different, and with as popular as they have become, I knew it was time to cut through the oily residue of essential oil controversy and show how these pleasant and easy to use tools could bring extra body and mind support to parents.

Time and time again I find the greatest gifts and direct paths to my purpose reveal themselves through my struggles and being well… inconvenienced. Exposure from a young age to the body’s ability to defend itself from disease, and learning to manage my own auto-immune disorder to conceive and continued opportunities to learn through resistance…. all laid out the welcome mat to become a full fledged crunchy earth momma.

    Auto-Immune Necessity

What started as a journey to reduce sugar and carbs to unravel my PCOS turned into a change with my relationship with my own consumerism.  Shifting my perspective of food to satisfy specific cravings and taste and instead purchasing foods that supported my body health not only eliminated cravings but healed my relationship with food.  And the same with non-edible purchases. Understanding that purchasing things that were familiar and convenient didn’t always end up being what was best for me.

This all meant I was choosing honey and maple syrup instead of refined sugar, and choosing unsalted products and ingredients and adding my own sea and Himalayan salt in small quantity. This also meant I was ditching the laundry detergent that smelled like my childhood and loving the simplicity of life with simpler ingredients.

    Then I Became a Mom.

When I became a mom, I wanted to give my kids the best most pure start possible. Essential oils became a bigger part of that than I had originally anticipated. I was using camomile and lavender to calm them in their baths, clove oil to soothe their broken and teething gums, eucalyptus oil for my own toxic free Vicks.  As my kids grew their needs and interests changed and soon they wanted to help me craft holiday gifts with lotion bars, gourmet salts and home made perfume.

But, the essential oils that become the smell my kids would begin to recognize as home were lemon and thyme.

DanielDorman ,

Great source for useful adulting information!

I love how Leah finds a wide variety of guests that have expertise in different areas, but all with good advise for helping bring abundance to your day to day life. There's been many times where just a small thing she or a guest said brought clarity to something in my life, or sparked an idea or inspiration to improve my relationship with my family. I would recommend not only her podcast, but also following her on social media, as she's always posting helpful and inspiring things!
