011 What's the Point of Planning?

011 What's the Point of Planning?

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard purpose-led entrepreneurs, start-up impact business owners and coaches say that they don’t see the point of planning. And that tendency to be anti-planning has only gotten worse since the pandemic - after all, all the plans we made at the beginning of 2020 went a little awry, right?
But the truth is that planning is one of THE keys to success in business; it will also save you time, give you and your business a sense of structure and purpose, and significantly reduce your feelings of overwhelm and panic.
In this episode, I'll debunk some of the most common excuses I hear on why people prefer not to plan; I'll explain why planning is the best way to approach any business, and I'll share four tips to start planning your business correctly.
    What You'll Learn:
    - How having a plan can save you time and energy, and bolster your business' success
    - How a plan can assist you during uncertain times
    - What to do if you find planning constraining
    - The right context for your planning
    - The importance of setting clear expectations and goals as part of your plan
I think of business planning the same way I think of planning a road trip: you need to know your final destination and have a roadmap to get there with a timeframe and resources prepared but you can detour and adjust along the way!
Having a plan is the safest way to ensure that you can actually make a difference with your business.

    010 Self-Care for Entrepreneurs

    010 Self-Care for Entrepreneurs

I take August off every year to commit to self-care and curiosity - exploring those things that have piqued my interest the rest of the year but I’ve not had time to look at; reading the books that have piled up by my bed!
Taking care of your physical and mental health is vital for purpose-led entrepreneurs and yet I see so many changemakers sacrificing their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing on the altar of making a difference.
But if you are an entrepreneur experiencing or approaching burnout, before you buy that next meditation programme or sign up for a month-long retreat, there are three core beliefs that you need to tackle. In this episode, I’ll talk about these limiting beliefs and mindset blocks that will hold you back from taking care of you. And, because it’s the summer and I’m in a good mood, I am sharing a free guide to help you work through them.
    What You’ll Learn:
    - Why self-care isn’t selfish but allowing yourself to burn-out is
    - What you are really saying when you say you don’t have time for self-care
    - Why you should avoid the ‘self-care fundamentalists’
    - How to discover self-care practices that really work for you
Becoming aware of your self-care beliefs is a great first step towards building a self-care routine that will actually work for you and support you as a purpose-led entrepreneur. Use the link below to access the Actually Guide to Self-Care for Entrepreneurs, do the journaling exercises recommended and find your path to true self-care. Because it's time, and you are ready to actually make a difference.

    09 Choosing Joy

    09 Choosing Joy

A slightly different kind of episode today...short, sweet and hopefully filled with joy.
I believe that business - and marketing - can be joyful but is joy a passive experience or an active choice? Today I am debunking myths about joy! But I’m also sharing with you my shortcut to joy and the four lessons I learnt from a Ghanaian boy called Bob, about finding and choosing joy amidst stress, crisis, despair and busyness.
    What You'll Learn:
    - Why choosing joy should be a daily priority
    - How what you focus on determines whether you experience joy
    - The benefits of setting a clear intention to be joyful
    - A shortcut to joy
     -How to experience more joy
I invite you to allow yourself a moment of recognition, a moment to feel the joy in the simple things like being alive or having a purpose. You can't control what happens to you, but you do control how you react to those things; you are responsible for responding to every single event that crosses your path. The choice is yours, and you can always choose joy whilst you are Actually Making a Difference.

    08 The Fear of Failure

    08 The Fear of Failure

If there is one fear that nearly every purpose-led entrepreneur will grapple with at some point, it is the fear of failure. So let's chat about why it's normal to be hit by this fear and how to deal with it.
    What You'll Learn:
    - How the world contributes to making fear of failure so prevalent these times
    - How connection is the antidote to fear - including the fear of failure
    - My four step process for handling fear including facing it and listening to it
-The best way to shake fear out of our bodies
Our first reaction to fear is to run from it, hide from it or avoid it at all costs - and so we often overlook the fact that fear has something to teach us. That's why my invitation is to face fear, look it right in the eye, listen to what it has to say and try to find out what is beneath it and what we can learn from it: so that we can get on with Actually Making a Difference.

06 To Niche or Not to Niche

06 To Niche or Not to Niche

Leaving my personal and grammatical issues with using the word "niche" as a verb aside, today I'll talk about niching. I'll go through why developing a clear niche of ideal clients for your business is necessary; how to avoid falling into predatory thinking about niching; and debunk the three most common excuses entrepreneurs use to resist developing a niche.
    What You'll Learn:
    - Why we must take the time to develop a niche
    - Truths vs. myths about niching
    - What happens to your message when it's too generic
    - The advantages of figuring out who your ideal client is
    - Why it's necessary and healthy for your business that your marketing excludes some people
Once you find your niche and understand your ideal client, they will become your business' best friends. insights from them can help you to answer all kinds of questions like what to call your podcast, which social media channel to focus on, or the best time to run a workshop. Niching can help you to ensure you are Actually Making a Difference.
