On Living Up to OUR Potential

On Living Up to OUR Potential

Another one for the Weekend Wandering series since this is coming out on a Saturday.

In this episode, I reflect on my experiences with living up to the potential others saw me growing up, versus the potential I saw for myself.

The potential - or the dreams, hopes, goals, and aspirations we have - don't always align with the gifts and talents we already possess, or the talents others see in us. Whichever road we decide to take is 100% up to us. But our ADHD sure does make it tough to choose one route sometimes. Even though I want to do all the things, I can't realistically do all the things. And if I decided to do anything, I'd rather do what makes me happy, even if it scares the crap out of me, and even if it means I might fail.

    Reflecting on Sleep

    Reflecting on Sleep

I'm calling this one part of my Weekend Wandering series. Not really a series, but basically just random rambles, reflections, and lightbulb moments I've had.

In this episode, I reflect on sleep, underlying reasons behind my not-so-wise past decisions, and why those decisions weren't really for my benefit.

The Model Minority Myth and How It Can Affect Our Mental Health

The Model Minority Myth and How It Can Affect Our Mental Health

This is one I've been putting off since the beginning.

In this episode, we scratch the surface of the Model Minority Myth, and how it affects the diagnoses and treatment for those of us who are visibly Asian and manage our mental health, as well as the perceptions that others have of us about our mental health.

Self-Advocacy Can Start With Us & The Unfortunate Cultural Norms That Can Hold Us Back

Self-Advocacy Can Start With Us & The Unfortunate Cultural Norms That Can Hold Us Back

This episode talks about some of the unfortunate cultural norms that can hold us back from advocating for ourselves, how unconscious biases from folks who did not grow up in those communities can unintentionally skew the ways they view and interpret the mental health of others. and how that can become damaging to those who already feel they have no right to speak up.

Great podcast! Interesting perspective.

Loved the open, honest way that MJ shared her story and the unique twists in its delivery. Anxious for more.

Considering subscribing

Content was good but way too many little sound effect cute noises. A few is fine but not after virtually every sentence spoken. I’ll definitely subscribe if these are reduced.

TeddyHC ,

Unique perspective on ADHD

This podcast addresses ADHD from a unique and much-needed angle. There *are* different challenges with having ADHD as a minority, and exploring that adds so much to the conversation on ADHD in general. So important to have a community to learn and get inspiration from. Love MJ’s honesty in sharing her personal story and that she has so much fun with this podcast (listen for it ;)). Can’t wait to hear more!
