Adult-Focused Private Practice Success with Katie Brown Private Practice Success Stories

    • Personal Journals

Are you interested in working with adults? Are you interested in learning from a fairly new SLP who built a specialty practice to full-time within six months?
Katie Brown, who is joining me in this episode, is who you want to hear from if either of these (or both) are of interest to you!
Katie Brown, MA, CCC-SLP, CBIS is a speech-language pathologist and certified brain injury specialist practicing in Buffalo, NY. She owns a private practice called Neuro Speech Solutions which specializes in therapy for adults with neurogenic communication and cognitive disorders. Katie is passionate about providing meaningful, functional therapy to those with aphasia and cognitive impairments related to stroke and TBI.
Outside of her private practice, Katie is active in the SLP community. She is an advocate for person-centered care and creates digital materials aiming to help other medical SLPs feel more confident in providing personally relevant therapy. Katie is a mentor for the Start Your Private Practice Program and an SLP consultant for the aphasia app company, Tactus Therapy. She volunteers for several non-profits and provides a monthly workshop for brain injury survivors.
In this conversation, Katie and I talk about what happens when SLPs decide that they've had it in traditional settings and want to work outside of the box. We also get into how she got started in her specialty, what it took to grow her private practice so quickly and so much more.

In Today's Episode, We Discuss:
What it’s like to start a private practice early in your careerWhy you need to always be talking about your private practiceThe difference between being helpful and being salesyCreating community over competition with other SLPsLimiting beliefs that might deter you from starting a private practiceWhy you should find a mentor to guide you

Katie is a shining example of what is possible in private practice. She followed the step-by-step plan, did the work, and built a private practice that she's proud of by being a part of the Start Your Private Practice program. She is one of my top success stories, and I'm very proud of what she's done!
