A weekly podcast where we talk about the best part of watching television: The commercials! Andrew, Genevieve and their guests discuss the ads they love, the ads they hate, and the ads that they love to hate (we're looking at you, Movantik.) firstname.lastname@example.org
#299 Summer of Sandwiches
Summer is the season of picnics and road trips, and America's sandwich giants have left no celebrity stone unturned in the battle for the consumer dollar. Plus, Pete Davidson has some regrets, Andrew and Vieves play a train jingle that might be familiar, and a cat does tricks.
#298 Dreams of My Advertiser
Everyone knows that dreams make for boring conversation, but do they make for interesting commercials? Andrew quizzes Vieves on ads that may - or may not - rely on dreams to make their pitch. Plus, a car ad is a total copycat and a pooping aid cries sexism.
#297 Doubting Match
Andrew and Vieves look at ads that rely on the time-worn trope of convincing a skeptic to abandon their cynical ways. Plus, a 70's toy ad sparks a discussion of wheelie techniques and a cartoon baker goes mad.
#296 Lyin' Claimers
We know we're not supposed to believe everything we see on TV, but when advertisers straight-up lie to us, that crosses a line. Andrew and Vieves look at campaigns that were too good to be true. Plus, Andrew is excited to discover a breakfast beer at last.
#295 Long Distance Relationship
A campaign for a smart phone device challenges Vieves' conception of love in the modern era (and Andrew's conception of voice-over-IP technology.) Plus, the gloves come off in some new ads for the U.S. military.
#294 The Hard Sell(tzer)
After a walk on the White Claw side, Andrew indulges his curiosity about how all the hard seltzer also-rans are hawking their wares. Plus, Sam Adams isn't the only brand making hay from the Boston accent, and the Ad Council is Krogering their brains out.
Fun and interesting
Love your take on advertising. Thank you
Years off but I’m back!
So glad they are still doing this. I’m the guy that went back and forth withGenevieve in these reviews and changing my star level weekly. The tension between us was palpable… My podcast crush is as strong as ever after just one week back!
Good luck and keep it up.Brian
“Ad” this podcast to your life!
Andrew and Genevieve could talk about doing their taxes and I’d be entertained. Even better is listening to them praise or drag the commercials that bombard us on a daily basis. They are really great at making TV translate to audio. I usually agree with their takes but even when I don’t, it’s funny and their enthusiasm is mood-lifting!
