Ep. 91: The Amityville Horror, Pt. 2 - The Haunting

In the second of our two-part series on the best-known, most widely dramatized haunting case in American History, we finally get to the ghosts! On December 18, 1975, George and Kathy Lutz moved into the house at 112 Ocean Avenue. Twenty-eight days later, they fled the house, leaving most of their belongings behind. This week, Sean takes us through the amazing “true” story, as told to us by the Lutzes through author Jay Anson. Prepare for chills, thrills, and more pigs and flies than a dang William Golding novel!

Ep. 90: The Amityville Horror, Pt. 1 - Murder on Ocean Avenue

Ep. 90: The Amityville Horror, Pt. 1 - Murder on Ocean Avenue

The Amityville Horror is one of the most publicized hauntings in American history. But 13 months before the Lutz family's short and spooky stay in the famous house on Ocean Avenue, the real horror came - in the form of six grisly murders, in one night, under one roof.
In the first of a two-part series, Sean gives us a primer on the horror behind the horror - the tragic deaths of the DeFeo family, and the "comedy" of errors that followed.

Ep. 89: Slender Man, Pt. 2 - The Slender Man Stabbing

Ep. 89: Slender Man, Pt. 2 - The Slender Man Stabbing

On part two of our two-part Slender Man series, we dive into the very real consequences of this modern legend of a monster with the infamous "Slender Man Stabbing" case.
In May 2014, 12-year old Payton Leutner was discovered, injured and bleeding, on the outside of the woods in her native Waukesha, Wisconsin. Payton had an unbelievable story to tell law enforcement: she had been attacked and stabbed by her two preteen friends, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, who had apparently believed that Payton's death was necessary to appease the mythical "Slender Man" so they would be accepted as his proxies and go live with him at "Slender Mansion" in the Nicolet National Park forest.
Geyser and Weier would be tried as adults for their horrific crime...but how sane and competent were these tweens, really? We explore both sides of the story, and debate whether the concept of Slender Man really influenced these girls to commit this heinous act - or if they were mentally unable to understand the consequences.

Ep. 88: Slender Man, Pt. 1 - The Origins

Ep. 88: Slender Man, Pt. 1 - The Origins

Is it possible for an online meme-turned-urban legend to become...real?
That's the question we ask this week as we investigate the origins of Slender Man, an eerie, faceless monster known to have been created on the Something Awful forums in June 2009. While Slender Man's origins are traceable, his reach has extended much further than even his long limbs and tentacles could have possibly ever expected.
Do some people really believe in Slender Man? Have those beliefs been powerful enough to turn this viral creature into a "tulpa" strong enough to bend those in reality to its will? And even if not...does it even matter?
Here in part one we chart the origin of the Slender Man mythos, and prepare for next week's dive into the reality of the horror with the 2014 Slender Man Stabbing.

Ep. 87: The Stamford Bra Murders

Ep. 87: The Stamford Bra Murders

Between 1967 and 1971, the small city of Stamford, Connecticut was terrorized by a little-known serial killer. A total of five Black women were strangled - most with their own brassieres - and dumped within a 750-yard stretch of the Merritt Parkway. While a colorful local character was eventually arrested and prosecuted for the crimes (sound familiar?), doubts linger to this day about who was behind these women's fate.
This week Sean takes us through the facts of the case in the Bra Murders, and the public outrage that grew around the investigation as Stamford's Black community wondered if the wheels of justice would have moved any faster for white victims.

    Ep. 86: Cursed Jewelry

    Ep. 86: Cursed Jewelry

Among the legends of allegedly cursed objects, stories of cursed jewelry and gemstones reign supreme. There's something mystical about these items, which often fall into the hands of the extremely wealthy, famous, and powerful - from bone-fide royalty to your run-of-the-mill tycoons and socialites.
But can these gaudy possessions really be cursed? We cover the stories of 4 of the most possessed possessions, including:

The Delhi Purple Sapphire, which returned to one desperate author's possession even after being thrown into a river

The Henry Graves Supercomplication Watch, "the Holy Grail of watches" and harbinger of doom for the man who commissioned it

The Black Prince's Ruby, literally plucked off the corpse of royalty to bolster another's crown

And the most famous gem in the world, the Hope Diamond, inspiration for the Heart of the Ocean from Titanic and supposedly the most cursed piece of jewelry of all time

Join us for this backstory of bling and decide for yourself whether a pretty rock can ruin your life!
