This week, episode three, includes the documentary, in full, straight from the Director’s desk (Shawn Brady). This production was then ripped from the DVD, and re-mastered at OVNI Studios in Ensenada, Mexico; Now available worldwide in digital form to become preserved here on YouTube for ages to come.
The PBS Emmy-Award winning documentary, “Music For Every Occasion – The True Story of the DePue Family Musicians”, began its run at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and the WBGU-TV audiences there, locally. The documentary quickly showed promise for National exposure, with Director Shawn Brady at the helm, demonstrating his own prowess through excellent story-telling, and scripted narrative, beautifully performed by James Dumke.
The documentary’s story features the DePue Family Musicians, now more popularly known as “The DePue Brothers”, and does not skip any detail. From the more personal side of the brothers’ lives as musicians, all the way to the demise of their mother, Linda DePue, the documentary leaves in its wake, thought-provoking concern for the family on a personal level, and leads its audience toward future celebrations the family would then encounter – the most notable of which, being deemed “Musical Family of the Year” by then-President, George H. Bush through direct communication from the White House.
The Fiddler's Forum - The Pinky Exercise (Interactive Violin Tutorial w/ Alex DePue)
The Fiddler’s Forum (Podcast) – Season 1, Ep. 02 – DIY Violin! “The Pinky Exercise” Tutorial
For THIS one, you will need to have in your hands, your favorite violin! We will explore an area of technique development often found deficient within the overall technique for many violinists, from the beginner, and believe it or not… all the way into the realm of those professional violinists, sustaining their living as such.
As violinists passionate about what we do, this area of progress and growth on the instrument, is VITAL for your own independent success!
By the end of this workout, assuming you follow the rules, and play along with the tutorial, you WILL FEEL THE BURN. You will feel the muscular strengthening of that bulbous part, at the base of your left pinky, which dictates whether or not you will obtain the strength needed to implement a nice, curved pinky, each time it lands on you fingerboard.
There’s no easy way out… oh, wait. Yes there is?!
It is by following along with this video! One week, with this at the top of your practice routine? And then YOU will be the proud owner of a new and improved, STRENGTHENED left pinky! Essential for correct technique, which enables the student / player, consistency, accuracy, and dependable pinky prowess!
Just watch and listen the first time, from beginning to end. Then, and for the next week of your own private pinky training, begin the video / podcast at 12:20 in. From there, and for a good WEEK, play along with the video, giving 100% effort at keeping up all the way through, and by the end of the week? NEW VIOLINIST. (You)!
I want to hear the success stories which are inevitable should you follow these directions for that one week of intense and laborious focus on that muscle. It will tire, you will feel the burn… let that muscle repair itself, and then go right back at it!
Start with the “easy” string, (the e-string) and, along with proper adjustment with each new string, from the effort of the left elbow, allow each progression to challenge you further, while conquering each step of the process along the way.
Remember, know when to walk away! Leave each practice session feeling like the superhero you ARE, vs. waiting for too long, mixing up your personal mood to the point of that feeling of defeat before putting the violin back in its case.
Instead, CELEBRATE the VICTORIES, and then begin one step back from where you ended your practice the day before, and conquer on that new day? NEW GROUND!
The Fiddler's Forum - Ep. 1 - DePue's Album Modern Paganini, World Tour with Steve Vai, Queen of Grass Rhonda Vincent, Merle Haggard, & J.S. Bach
Get to know American violinist, @Alex DePue - Violin, on a more than personal level, as he begins a new podcast, designed for violinists and fiddlers alike... any string players, really, and now that we're thinkin' about it? We're talkin' about musicians and music APPRECIATORS worldwide, with the series launch of (Season 1): "The Fiddler's Forum (podcast) - Episode One - DePue Record "Modern Paganini", How The Title Happened, the World Tour Steve Vai, Queen of Bluegrass Rhonda Vincent, Merle Haggard , & @J.S.Bach ".
Just think for a moment about this title. Merely combining those names, and then packaged into one episode of a new series of episodes, certainly as eclectic as this first one... it's unprecedented behavior in the name of entertainment! It requires a rare breed of music appreciators to even dig, initially, what is the concept for this new-form kind of podcast.
"The Fiddler's Forum", a new kind of podcast presented to you by The Fiddler, LLC, a California based company, under which DePue conducts all of his "business" affairs, including (but not limited to) the likes of "in-house" record company, Spontaneous Records, the recording studio itself, OVNI Studios, and also his, again, "in-house" publishing company, "Compulsive Fiddler", which resulted from having been under the professional care, and in the band three years, for legendary guitarist Steve Vai (2007 - 2010).
Under the same umbrella (The Fiddler LLC), Alex DePue has recorded, and continues to also perform, with yet another guitar legend, best known in his native land of Mexico, a flamenco guitarrista Señor Miguel De Hoyos.
Together they produce a sound yet unmatched in today's world of musics, and often referred to as "DePue De Hoyos". It is an organic combination of distinctively different musical tastes and thus, cultures. The result? DePue explains; "Take the twisted, rocked-out acoustic violin sound you know already, and then super-impose that on top of this native, organically authentic, Mexican groove from De Hoyos, and then we've all got somethin' new to talk about! I'm currently re-mastering our best-seller worldwide, the debut album for the duo, called "Underground Whispers", and havin' a blast doin' it."
For YOU, the music lover, we will enjoy the "long-form" episodes like this, the first of its kind, "The Fiddler's Forum (podcast) - Seas.1, Ep. #01 - Modern Paganini, Steve Vai, The Queen of Bluegrass Rhonda Vincent, Merle Haggard, & JS Bach", along with other episodes which will be designed for the actual players (tutorials where having a violin in hand will serve ya best)... but not only for violinists: For most musicians, DePue's podcast will prove to be beneficial from having only heard the content. But our goal is to introduce for you implementation of some older musical concepts, tried and true in origin, but then to apply them for what is our current "norm" in the year 2021, globally.
