All Access: Review Of ‘Strange New Worlds’ 109 “All Those Who Wander”

All Access: Review Of ‘Strange New Worlds’ 109 “All Those Who Wander”

[Strange New Worlds news and review start at 9:49] Tony and Laurie start with Sonequa Martin-Green’s barely-a-tidbit about season 5 of Star Trek: Discovery, then speculate on whether or not the crossovers she’s hoping for have already been filmed or not. Then they give an update on Lower Decks, courtesy of Tawny Newsome and showrunner Mike McMahan, and talk about the show getting its first comic book series at IDW, along with other excitement around IDW’s 400th Star Trek comic. They take a look at the latest Strange New Worlds season two news about potential Klingons, then review episode 9, “All Those Who Wander.” (It’s a dark one, folks.) They wrap up with a look at Star Trek’s presence in the new Elvis movie from Baz Luhrmann along with Elvis’ horse-related fandom, and expert (but gross) biology info from Dr. Mohamad Noor, with a reminder to keep watching BioTrekkie With the Admiral with Dr. Noor and Jayne Brook.

Then they dig deep into a recent interview with Terry Matalas, where he talks about his love of TOS movies and his plans for Picard season 3 with the reunion of the TNG cast and as-yet-unnamed TNG guest stars. They take a look at a new Sonequa Martin-Green interview about Discovery with a hint of Tilly’s possible return, and clarify last week’s statement from Kate Mulgrew about live-action Janeway. Then they review the newest Strange New Worlds episode “The Elysian Kingdom,” which they both found fun but somewhat disappointing at the same time. They wrap things up with a look at a Star Trek fan at the Jan. 6 hearings and some surprising Star Trek mentions on a couple of non-Trek podcasts.

Really good!

I was unsure of this podcast when it was first announced. It was positioned as covering all of the CBS All Access weekly news which sounded like it might be a thinly-veiled PR lovefest for new Trek (looking at you Trek Geeks). Look, the new Trek is fine — some good, some bad, some truly inept writing and characterization…what’s great is that these hosts tell it like it is either way. They love Trek - warts and all - and it comes across in every episode. I look forward to seeing it pop up in my feed each week!

Humorous, Insightful Show

I smiled and laughed. Thank you for this podcast, a balanced mix of breaking Star Trek news, gossip, and episode review. Laurie and Tony really hit their stride when joking around about the shows, sharing their deep knowledge of the Trek franchise and specific show insights.
