They say creativity is collaborative, but the truth is that a whole lot of us spend the majority of our time working or creating with no one else around.
My name's Taylor Berrett, and I want to talk to creative people about how they try to make something great while no one's watching. I'll interview creatives and businesspeople, talk about working solo, and ask questions like, "How long could you spend without seeing another person before you would start talking to a volleyball?"
And, in the spirit of any good show about working alone, I'll also get very, very distracted.
The Day We've All Been Waiting For: Lobsterfest
In today's super-special episode of Alone in a Room, we have an in-depth political discussion with a Red Lobster employee. Then, we talk to textile artist Elyse DeLisle about printmaking, life on the road, and the world's most incredible pair of overalls.
Fish Boys, Cornbellies, & LinkedIn
This week, we're joined once more by Mike O'Donnell to discuss his big move and Taylor's new business venture, celebrate the show's first hate mail, and make some un-recommendations. Then we're joined by Taylor's brother Dain to discuss how much we hate LinkedIn.
Paul Simon or Paul Hollywood?
On today's episode, we look back at the long and rich history of the show and admire just how far we've come. Then, we introduce a new segment where we recommend shows, movies, and books NOT to check out. Finally, we interview lawyer, social media phenomenon, and vicious podcast rival Eli McCann— culminating in a thrilling game of "Paul Simon or Paul Hollywood."
Get These Fricks Out of My Room
This week features L.A.-based music manager Mike O'Donnell, who shares why he puts an app in charge of his self-control and how he's trying to make 'frick' great again. Plus, Taylor shares how he embarrassed himself in front of Rihanna and Drake on the same night.
The Spiky Devil
Welcome to "Alone in a Room," the show about what happens when people spend their time working solo on the things they care about most. In this first episode, we address the virus in the room, catch you up on all the news that doesn't matter, and talk with CAIT— an artist, entrepreneur, and performer who does it all with the power of Post-It notes.
