But how do we feel about the turbo-hybrid setup? ⚡ Chris Teague Road Test: 2026 Lexus RZ Chris Teague puts the Lexus RZ eletric car through its paces. This model year Lexus expands its all-electric crossover with three powertrains: RZ 350e (221 hp FWD), 450e (308 hp AWD), and 550e F SPORT (402 hp AWD). Ranges run from roughly 301 miles down to 229 miles depending on model and wheels. NACS port, refined ride, dual-zone climate, heated/ventilated seats, 14-inch screen, and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 are standard. Higher trims add Mark Levinson audio, head-up display, and panoramic roof. This is a polished, quiet luxury EV focused on everyday usability, but is it a good choice for your family? 🏎️ Hennessey’s $2.5 Million Blackbird Hypercar Hennessey Special Vehicles unveils the Blackbird—an analog, naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 hypercar with six-speed manual, screen-free cabin, rear-drive, and active stabilizers inspired by the SR-71. The vehicle “targets 800-850 hp, “ — whatever that means, and it is expected to weigh under 3,000 pounds. Expect 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, and a 220-mph top speed. Limited to 71 examples from $2.5 million, more than two-thirds already allocated. ⚡ Genesis Announces GV60 Magma Pricing Genesis has priced its first high-performance EV at $69,950. Dual-motor AWD delivers more than 600 hp (up to 641 in Boost), Drift Mode, Virtual Gear Shift with “authentic sound,” and Magma-specific aero and bucket seats. The zippy sportster will arrive soon at select California, New York, and New Jersey retailers. 📊 Record Trade-In Equity Average positive equity on trade-ins hit a record $13,330 in Q2 2026, nearly double pre-pandemic levels. Everyday trucks and crossovers (F-150, Silverado, Ram 1500, CR-V, RAV4, etc.) lead with five-figure equity. Higher loan rates make that equity especially valuable as a down payment, especially with transaction prices reaching record levels. On the sadder side, negative equity also hit records for those who bought at peak prices in the dark days of the pandemic. 📉 Decline in Vehicle Leasing Leasing share has fallen from about 30% pre-pandemic to 23% in the first half of 2026. Aggressive incentives are gone, and returning customers face $100–$200 higher monthly lease payments this time around. More buyers are shifting to longer loans (nearly 25% at 84 months), while fewer off-lease returns keep used-car prices elevated. 🚙 Land Rover Ends Discovery Sport After 11 years and steadily declining U.S. sales (only about 1,100 in the first half of 2026), Land Rover will put a firm stop to Discovery Sport production in December 2026. The Evoque becomes the sole “entry-level model” for now. Its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 169 horsepower, while Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert remain standard. The SE starts at $24,780. Bill Ford: U.S. Automakers Must Compete Directly with China Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. says tariffs and trade barriers cannot keep Chinese automakers out indefinitely. He argues that U.S. companies must be prepared to compete on merit. Ford is developing a roughly $30,000 electric pickup for 2027 production in Kentucky as their first salvo in the effort. Stellantis Names New CEOs for Ram and Jeep Stellantis has shuffled the leadership at two key brands. Matt VanDyke has become CEO of Ram, while Branden Coté is scheduled to take over Jeep on August 3. Stellantis says the changes are intended to strengthen customer focus, product strategy, marketing, and dealer relations at the two American brands. California EV Rebate Rules Favor Rivian and Lucid Over Tesla California’s MyFirstEV program offers $3,500 toward qualifying new EVs and $1,750 toward used EVs for first-time buyers. A headquarters exemption allows California-based Rivian and Lucid to qualify above the program’s $50,000 vehicle-price cap, while Tesla is excluded because it moved its headquarters to Texas — despite employing more Californians than Lucid and Rivian combined. Volkswagen Announces 2027 Atlas Pricing The redesigned seven-passenger Atlas starts at $41,610 for front-wheel drive and $43,610 with 4Motion all-wheel drive, before destination charges. Standard equipment includes a power tailgate, rear sunshades, dual wireless charging, Park Distance Control, and a 12.9-inch infotainment display.
