Episode 7: Frenemies - We All Got Them!

Episode 7: Frenemies - We All Got Them!

When it comes to making friends, what do you look for? Someone that compliments you, someone that balances you or someone you can have some healthy competition with? Today Ana and Irum talk about the dog-eat-dog moments of women in the workforce and being tossed into the competitive "ring of fire" when all of the sudden you realize that an unsuspecting friend has turned into your biggest adversary or worst.....biggest competitor...or worst....biggest hater! So why does this happen? Why can't more than one woman dominate in a single space? Why does one woman always want to take the crown? Get ready for the moment of reflection!  We're going to talk about the stigma around adult friendships and how frenemies are formed on the professional landscape- what kind of relationships are we really getting ourselves into (and what are the signs) when we meet people at our place of business? Have you ever been to a networking event, just to be introduced to someone that was given you serious negative vibes or maybe they dismissed you immediately - not even giving you a chance to properly introduce yourself? We've all been there! So what's a gal to do? Hold her head up high and kick the door open for a dramatic exit out of a stuffy room, or does she clench her jaw with grace and suck it up while plotting revenge? Today's talk is the ultimate "What would you do?"

    Scriptures mentioned in this episode:

Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Mathew 5:39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.
Luke 6:37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven
Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Proverbs 18:24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 19:20 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise
James 4:11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
Proverbs 16:28 A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.

Episode 6: Would you rather be Shipwrecked OR Drifting Away?

Episode 6: Would you rather be Shipwrecked OR Drifting Away?

Have you ever felt like you were just stuck in the middle of nowhere and anywhere but where you are is where you rather be? What if being shipwrecked is better than just drifting away with the current to a destination that's not certain of a promise? Hmmm...can you relate? Today Ana and Irum talk about moments we all face when we feel like we're stuck in a rut. How often do we wish that we can just push through to another place, another season or another moment? Maybe we don't care about where we want to go, we just need to go somewhere....other times we're drifting away and just can't seem to focus on where we should be heading. So what do you do, when you can't seem to understand what your next move should be? How do you get out of this funk?

    Scriptures mentioned in this episode:

Exodus 14:14 ESV The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
Jeremiah 29:11 - 13 ESV For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Psalm 131:2 ESV But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.
Isaiah 32:17 ESV And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.
Romans 12:12 ESV Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Isaiah 40:31 ESV But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

So let's open up and get real - One thing for sure, we are going to grow and heal through this process together!

What Are You Afraid Of? (Part 2 of 3)

What Are You Afraid Of? (Part 2 of 3)

What Are You Afraid Of? (Part 2 of 3)

Today Ana and Irum talk about being afraid and fearful of new experiences as it relates to people. We ask our listeners to take a deep-dive to uncover what makes us afraid of other people? Is it because we're uncomfortable coming outside our bubble OR have we been taught to categorize people?

How can we learn to create circles of inclusion and understanding between communities? What does the bible say about equality? Why is it important to standup to others when they categorize a group of people solely based on the color of their skin, the way the talk or their heritage?
What is the pattern to break the cycle when fear is passed through generations? What is the type of bondage your fears have over you that end up caging you from experiences?

    Scriptures Mentioned Today:

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Proverbs 22:2 The rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the maker of them all.
Psalm 67:4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah
Hebrews 12:14 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
Psalm 9:8 And he judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness.

What are You Afraid Of? (Part 1 of 3)

What are You Afraid Of? (Part 1 of 3)

Many times we hide insecurities deep in our hearts and we build walls so high that we end up actually isolating ourselves from amazing experiences.  What's holding you back? What are you afraid of if you let someone in? Are you afraid of being hurt and never being able to recover? Are you afraid of wasting time and never being able to use it towards something productive? Are you afraid of losing something else? What's driving your fear?  Do you have a brokenness, that you thought was healed and now a life-altering situation fizzled up and caused you to revisit a traumatic time in your life? Today Ana and Irum slow down and talk about fears that drive us to do things that we don't want to do AND fears that prevent us from doing what we are destined to do. We're going to have that sister-to-sister conversation of friendships, partnerships and past failures that are still haunting us in the present moment.  So let's open up and get real - like really REAL of Part 1 of 3 on a topic that our avid listeners have asked us to take a really deep dive into. One thing for sure, we are going to grow and heal through this process together!

    Scriptures we mentioned today:

Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Deuteronomy 1:11 May the Lord, the God of your ancestors, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!
Joshua 21:45 Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
1 Samuel 12:23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Genesis 28:15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Numbers 32:24 Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”
Exodus 12:25 When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony.
Numbers 23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
