Luke 1:5-38

Before we get to the start of Jesus’ ministry in 4:14, Luke first provides us all the content that ranges from 1:5-4:13. Why? The answer is found by remembering Luke’s theme that hangs over his whole book, namely that—Jesus is the Savior who makes salvation possible for all people from every nation. Now, when someone says a particular person can get the job done, a good question to ask is this—“What makes this person qualified to fulfill the task? Sensing some of his readers would ask this question, Luke answers by providing us the Savior’s Resume of credentials that solidify why He is the One who makes salvation possible for all people from every nation. The question then is this—How will I respond to the revelation of this Savior from God’s Word? Luke opens his gospel showing two ways to respond. One, hear God’s promise-keeping Word and not believe. Or two, hear God’s promise-keeping Word and believe.
