Samantha Kolber has received a Human Relations Indie Book Award, a Ruth Stone Poetry Prize, and a Vermont Poetry Society prize. Her unpublished manuscript “Jewel Tones” was a semifinalist with the Crab Orchard Series in Poetry’s 2019 First Book Prize, and her chapbook “Classified” was selected as a finalist in the 2020 May Day Mountain Chapbook Series with VCFA. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Rattle, Oddball Magazine, Mom Egg Review, Poems2Go, Tiny Seed Journal, Rise Up Review, Hummingbird, Hunger Mountain, Minerva Rising, The Meadow, and other journals and anthologies.

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago with the accent to prove it, I’ve always known my calling was to help others and perform on stage. So I moved out West to follow my dreams which at first, for me, meant living in my car for awhile. Thankfully, my hustle in acting and writing soon funded shelter. Who knew my life would change again, for the better, after I was robbed at gunpoint for 27 minutes. This experience was the thrust I needed to focus less on my fear of public speaking and just do it!

APOSTROPHES WRITER’S SERIES – Author Celia Ryker
Celia’s first career was with horses. She trained horses and taught students on Southeast Michigan’s hunter jumper circuit for more than 30 years. Her second career sent her back to school to study gardening fine arts and landscape design. They were not just careers; they were passions and when life left room for a new passion she began to distance hike. Her husband said, “She got to H in the alphabet and stopped. She went from horses, to horticulture, to hiking.”
Celia has kept journals and written short stories and poems all of her life. She has written articles for newsletters, local newspapers, and The Vermont League of Writers. Walking Home is Celia’s first book, but she has been working on her craft for decades.
Celia, her husband Don and their border collie Flurry divide their time between Michigan and Vermont.

In the Russian Empire's Pale of Settlement, Esther Leving, a brilliant young bibliophile, chafes at male dominance, religious dogma, and antisemitism.
