Western media, through its many means and platforms, represent an important source of news and information in the Arab world. Rather, it has turned, due to the poor performance of the Arab media and its dependence on political authority, into a reliable source of news, analysis and opinion in general, and the assassination of the Saudi journalist is nothing but a stark example of that.

The assassination of the Saudi journalist and writer Jamal Khashoggi, then, is not limited to its great and rapid ability to mobilize Arab and international public opinion because of its symbolism and the manner in which it was carried out, but it derives its extension from the role that the media played in covering the crime.

As for the American media, the basis of its interest in the issue is primarily due to the fact that the victim resides on American soil, and he is a writer for one of the most famous local newspapers, The Washington Post On the other hand, the issue in its relationship to the ruling regime in Saudi Arabia and the relationship of the United States to this regime represents an important reason for focusing on it and its course. But in general, the Western media is still a major actor of influencing the Arab scene in general, and this influence is not limited to the political level, but goes beyond it in particular to the cultural, economic and social levels in general.
