"Are you Chinese?" Maybe We Can Relate
-
- Personal Journals
When someone asks you "Are you Chinese?" what is your initial reaction?
In this episode, the three of us were able to dive a little bit deeper into our own unique Chinese-Canadian identities, and how our experiences growing up affect how we feel about our identities today. As first-generation Chinese immigrants, the three of us grew up with unique backgrounds and are able to come together to explore how our traditional vs. progressive families upbringing, childhood environment, schooling, and workplace affect our perspectives.
In light of the recent Asian-hate sentiment all over the world, we hope to shed light on what has happened, reconcile our internal sentiment towards these situations, and supply resources for anyone who wants to learn more.
