    Arsecast Extra Episode 485 - 14.08.2022

    Arsecast Extra Episode 485 - 14.08.2022

In this episode we enjoy the 4-2 win over Leicester at the Emirates on Saturday. Arsenal played some sensational football, and we discuss the impact of Gabriel Jesus and the importance and quality of his first goal for the club. There's analysis of all the goals, including the ones we conceded, the way we reacted to those concessions – especially the William Saliba own goal – as well as important contributions from Granit Xhaka, Gabriel Martinelli and Oleksandr Zinchenko, plus the feelgood factor being tied into how we're playing. We also answer listener questions about Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, incoming transfer business, Martin Odegaard, ducks and rabbits, as well as taking some time at the top of the show to enjoy some Man Utd related schadenfreude.

In this episode I chat to Nick Ames from the Guardian about the importance of Arsenal's opening day win against Crystal Palace, players returning from injury, transfer market needs, and Granit Xhaka.
Then to chat football stats, how they're collected, the influence they've had on the game, how they've developed over the years, what xG has meant for long-range shooting, and lots more, it's Rob from Opta (better known as Orbinho on Twitter).

    Arsecast Extra Episode 484 - 07.08.2022

    Arsecast Extra Episode 484 - 07.08.2022

In this episode we discuss the opening day win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, from the bright start we made which brought about Gabriel Martinelli's goal to allowing the home side back into it. We chat about why the momentum changed, the divergent discourse over Ben White's performance, and the hugely impressive debut from William Saliba. There are questions about substitutions, the way they were used and if the squad is still missing something; Patrick Vieira as a manager; refereeing this season and whether they'll let it flow more; how the centre-half position might evolve; and lots more, including a majestic Magpie-related musical finale from James.

    Episode 688 - The Borg

In this pre-season Premier League episode I'm joined by Ken Early of Second Captains to look ahead to the new season. We discuss the winter World Cup, how Erling Haaland might (or might not) fit in at Man City, Liverpool's 'net spend', Chelsea's transfer strategy, Man Utd's Cristiano Ronaldo issue, as well as some Arsenal chat and a very disturbing prediction from Ken which I hope does not come to pass.

Your guide through Arsenal highs and lows

I have supported Arsenal for 16 years (short for many folks.) Andrew is a fantastic host who has helped me keep the faith as the team gradually declined while always making us believe we can regain past glory. It is funny, insightful, and reminds us why we love Arsenal and the beautiful game. Also I appreciate his personal beliefs in tolerance and fighting racism / homophobia while asking deep questions about the influence on money on the sport and human rights.

Best Arsenal podcast

The gold standard of Arsenal podcasts. Andrew and James are both knowledgeable, funny, and just play off each other so well. The show is always relevant and interesting—and importantly, each of them normally have relatable and thought out opinions on the various topics. They don’t pretend they know things that they don’t know, don’t get too bogged down in uninteresting topics…they just know exactly what they’re doing.
