goodbye/fun facts....national animal cracker day...Animal crackers have been part of American childhood memories since the late 1800s when they were first imported from England where animal crackers were invented. Stauffer’s Biscuit Company began commercially producing their original recipe circus crackers in 1871. Stauffer’s unique baking process created a slightly sweet, crispy, cracker-like biscuit that dominated the market...until 1902 when competitor National Biscuit Company, a.k.a. Nabisco, introduced their brand of animal crackers packaged in small boxes that looked like P.T. Barnum circus train cars.  were initially sold as Christmas tree ornaments which is why they had a string on them...But not all animal crackers are created equal and many people still preferred the original Stauffer’s Animal Crackers recipe...which is still produced using the original 1871 recipe.

goodbye/fun facts....The Day of the Mushroom...it's celebrated to honor all things fungi. Since they first appeared in early European communities, it is generally assumed that people have been gathering mushrooms since the beginning of time, possibly even in prehistoric times. it is likely that China and Japan were the first places to cultivate mushrooms as early as 600 A.D...in 1824 The popular cookbook “The Virginia Housewife” is released where cooking with mushrooms was first introduced to Americans. Similar to how humans breathe, mushrooms take in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. but not all mushrooms are edible...so don't go out in nature and just eat any mushroom....but the edible mushrooms contain high amounts of selenium, vitamin D, and vitamin B6.

goodbye/fun facts....National Clean Up Your Pantry Day. A pantry is a dedicated space, a room, or a cabinet, where items related to the kitchen are stored. These items can be beverages, food, utensils, cleaning supplies, linens, and groceries. The term ‘pantry’ was first used during the Middle Ages to refer to domestic spaces. Colonists in New England used to store food in a “buttery,” which was a small room near a kitchen. The first buttery was an underground room in the Theron Boyd homestead in Hartford, U.S. in 1786. The “butler’s pantry” was popular in England and America during the 1800s. By the 1960s, floor-to-ceiling cabinets became a part of American kitchen design...just simply called pantries. Cleaning and arranging your pantry cabinets is a great way to commemorate the day... Sort out your items, replenish the required products, discard the expired ones, and donate the usable but outdated things.
