On Season 2 Episode #14 of Class in Session Podcast. Ms. Ahira Smith originally from Chicago, raised in New York talks with Logan and Dontay about her journey in education. Ms. Smith is an HBCU advocate and got her undergrad degree from The Kentucky State University (Mighty Thorobreds) in Frankfort, KY; Also received her master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She started as a substitute teacher in her journey in Augusta, Georgia. Smith then transition from K-12 as a Health/Physical Education Teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina to Higher Ed for over a decade and worked with students (especially athletes). A tone unique in education podcasts. Nothing else like it.

Elkfondue

Most education podcasts are either (1) Not very insightful. I listen and nod, but leave the podcast exactly the same as when I entered. (2) So EARNEST and trying to be DEEP that I can’t bear to listen to more than 15 minutes. When I said “most” I should have said “almost all.” Class in Session is a rare exception. The hosts are incredibly knowledgable, but they don’t try desperately to constantly convince you of that. The feel is more like you are in your favorite bar or coffee shop (well, bar) with these two brilliant educators, and the conversation turns to education, and suddenly, it Matters. I enjoy every episode, and then when I turn off I realize I learned something. My #1 education podcast - with nothing even close.

Class in Session podcast is everything I didn’t know I needed and I’m so happy to have come across such an incredible podcast. Logan and Dontay bring a fresh perspective to the education space through the lens of their guests. As a bonus mom, I am learning a lot about all of the work and sacrifices our educators and administrators put in. They are our true unsung heroes and they bring a whole new meaning to the quote “it takes a village.” I am looking forward to the next episodes!
