PSP 201: How to Motivate Our Kids to Work on Anxiety or OCD

PSP 201: How to Motivate Our Kids to Work on Anxiety or OCD

One of the biggest challenges parents face when raising a child with anxiety or OCD is...motivation. How do we motivate our kids to face their fears? How do we motivate our kids to sit in discomfort? How do we motivate them to even talk about their struggles.
That can feel like an uphill battle.
And yet, if you don’t have buy-in, it will be like trying to drive while someone has their foot firmly on the brake.
Our children’s struggles are their struggles, not ours. And only they will be able to take the necessary steps that will lead to long-term change. We can do our part by reducing our accommodations and our role in the anxiety or OCD, but the rest will be up to them.
So that brings us back to motivation.
In this episode of the AT Parenting Survival Podcast, I invited Dr. Amy Jenks, an anxiety & OCD therapist in the Bay Area to chat with me about how to help parents motivate their kids to work on anxiety or OCD.

PSP 200: How to Tell When It’s Difficult Behavior or When It’s Anxiety or OCD

PSP 200: How to Tell When It’s Difficult Behavior or When It’s Anxiety or OCD

Your child is refusing to clean their room, go to bed or go to school. They are digging their heels in and it doesn’t look like they are going to budge. What are you supposed to do?
Well if your child has anxiety or OCD, you might want to take an extra step and ask yourself, “Is this behavior caused by their anxiety or OCD?”
Why does this matter? Does it mean you are going to give them a complete pass on both their behavior and the task at hand?
Not exactly. It means you are going to approach it from a different angle. An angle that will help build your child’s skills so they can learn how to manage their anxiety or OCD.
In this episode of the AT Parenting Survival Podcast, I talk about how to decipher if your child’s behavior is caused by their anxiety or OCD struggles.
For more in-depth help on how to help your child through difficult behavior related to their struggles take my online course, How to Help Kids with Difficult Behavior Caused by Anxiety or OCD at https://atparentingsurvivalschool.com/p/difficult-behavior.

In this week’s podcast I chat with my 9 year old about her struggles with social anxiety (it runs in the family), and what has helped her make huge progress crushing those struggles.

PSP 196: How to Help Your Child with Anxiety or OCD Advocate for Themselves

PSP 196: How to Help Your Child with Anxiety or OCD Advocate for Themselves

As much as we want to protect our child from anything and everything, it is important that we teach them how to advocate for themselves. This is especially true when our kids have anxiety or OCD. They need to know how to articulate how they feel and what they need. This is true in both the school environment and even to some extent in the home environment.
In this week’s AT Parenting Survival Podcast, I talk about how we can teach our kids the skills to advocate for themselves. A gift we can give them that will have long-term benefits!

Life changing

I found this podcast while searching YouTube in tears trying to find something that I could connect with to help me with my anxious 7 year old. Natasha is so down to earth. Her real life examples are extremely relatable. I feel like she and I are on the same page about so many things. After one day of listening I was able to use what I’ve learned to get so much more information out of my anxious kiddo and I finally feel like we have a path to start down.
Thank you, Natasha!

Incredibly rich resource!

Natasha has a ton of experience specifically working with children with OCD/anxiety and their parents. These issues have so many ways they present and have tons of different themes. Natasha gives lots of examples of what these look like and concrete tools and skills that she has implemented with her clients. She is clear and easy to listen to. I appreciate that her titles arespecific so I can find all the episodes that best apply to our situation. I’m feeling more and more confident partnering with my child against her OCD and anxiety because of this podcast and Natasha’s other online resources. Bless you woman! ❤️
