Athrabeth is a monthly podcast that invites you down the lesser trod paths of Tolkien's Legendarium. Each episode we pick a single chapter, essay, fragment, or topic, and do a deep dive, exploring it as both fans and scholars.

Episode 58: Lesser-trod Paths with Clare Moore
This month, we welcome guest host Clare Moore as she presents Tolkien’s representations of disability and impairment through the lens of disability studies in “Lesser-trod Paths with Clare Moore.”
-
Episode 57: Fairy Fan Fiction
Jude finally defends his oft repeated assertion that the Hobbit is "fairy tale fan fiction"! Stef is a good sport and does her best to make this episode fun and not pedantic! We mutually agree that Lee "Party Elf Dad" Pace is the best part of the Hobbit movies.
-
Episode 56: Bandaids Can't Fix Arda
Jude is back on his theological soapbox this month, as we dive into a discussion of Arda Marred and Arda Healed.
-
Episode 55: The (THREE?!) Kinslayings
We do lots of shipping on this podcast but we DON'T ship Fëanor and the swan boats of the Teleri! For this festive Valentine's episode we discuss the many kinslayings of the Sons of Fëanor!

Episode 54: Lesser-trod Paths with Wizard Way Kris
Jude and Stef welcome Kris Piet, a.k.a. Wizard Way Kris, to be our first guest host on a new series we’re calling, “Lesser-trod Paths.” In this series, we invite a guest to come on Athrabeth and tell us about their Tolkienian interests. Join us in this episode for a discussion of Tolkien’s languages, Elven sexuality, and the Rings of Power.

Episode 53: Interview with Dr. Sarah Schaefer and Dr. William Fliss, co-curators of J. R. R. Tolkien: The Art of the Manuscript
This month we have the particular pleasure of interviewing Dr. Sarah C. Schaefer and Dr. William M. Fliss, the co-curator’s of “J.R.R. Tolkien: The Art of the Manuscript” at the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University! The exhibition runs until December 23rd, so if you have the chance go visit and tell 'em Athrabeth sent you!

Great deep dives into the wilder corners of Tolkien
I love the discussions of the stranger and less well known corners of the legendarium. Informative and lots of fun.
The one to rule them all…
Came here just to write a review. I found this podcast actually through Spotify. I find it hard to focus on podcasts, but Jude and Steph capture my attention every episode. In the beginning I jumped around but I’ve recently gone back and have started watching them in order. I love Jude’s expertise and Steph’s energy. Keep up the good work!
Love it!
I just found this podcast and I love it! I read LotR and the Hobbit back in hs and fell in love with the world Tolkien created! It’s so exciting to delve further into his lesser known works and more of the histories created for middle earth.
