AWS Cost Anomaly Detection 2: Electric Boogaloo

Join Pete and Jesse as they continue their examination of a new AWS offering: AWS Cost Anomaly Detection. In addition to talking about must-watch break dancing movies from the 1980s, they touch upon how the new service is basic at this point in time and why that’s a good thing, what AWS could do to improve the alerting feature on this offering, why the term “root cause” should actually be “contributing factor,” how users are given the option to train the machine learning model if they want to, what Pete and Jesse would add to the service, and more.

They discuss the differences between the cloud-native, cloud-agnostic, and hybrid-cloud models, why Pete believes not a lot of people are running across multiple cloud providers, why engineers love the cloud and why finance hates it, the hidden costs associated with running EC2 instances, how vendor lock-in is more or less unavoidable, and more.

Irreverent and Essentail

Let’s face it: AWS changes fast, and there’s much to keep up with. I mean, how many new useless Chime features can there be in a month?

Choose Corey Quinn’s laugh-out-loud AWS morning brief as a way to soak it all such that it cuts through the BS quickly.

Corey loves to wrangle Amazon

Holy cow, this is an informative and funny podcast; and I listen with glee every week as Corey screws Amazon with their pants on.

Corey cannot spell

I spent a week looking for the “Last Week in A. W.S” until I realized that this podcast was incorrectly named. 10/10 would search again.
