    Ep. 055 - Interview: Unwoman

Unwoman came to St. Paul for a show that included an interview after her performance. On this episode, I play that interview, as recorded and with almost no editing, and a sampling of some of Unwoman's more recent releases. Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com

Ep. 054 - Dusting Off the Cobwebs

It has been, quite frankly, an embarassingly long time since I last posted a show, but I haven't stopped discovering great music that I want to share with you. On this episode, I catch you up on what I've been listening to over the past 10 months. I hope you enjoy! Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com

    Ep. 053 - Interview: Go Fight & I:Scintilla

    Ep. 053 - Interview: Go Fight & I:Scintilla

I had the opportunity to sit down with Jim Cookas and Brittany Bindrim of I:Scintilla and Jim Marcus and Vince McAley of Go Fight when I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and this episode is the product of our conversation. It was less of an interview and more of a discussion. We talked about what the bands are up to, their March Midwest tour dates together, a lot about the music industry, new technologies, science fiction's predictions for the future, the Garbage fandom, making magic and more. Plus, I let my guests take over most of the music on this episode and they picked some great songs that you may not have heard (yet). Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com

Ep. 052 - Interview: Gabriel and the Apocalypse

Ep. 052 - Interview: Gabriel and the Apocalypse

Get to know one of my favorite Minneapolis-based bands on this episode. I talk to Lindy, Cody and Jake of Gabriel and the Apocalypse about the band (where they've come from and where they're going), Rock Band, songwriting, the challenges faced with recording New World Disaster, why PJ Harvey is awsome, working with photographer Brandon Wu, the forthcoming video for Silent War, and their upcoming show at Ground Zero in Minneapolis with I:Scintilla, Go Fight and Goodnight Criminals. The guitars are front and center on this episode and there are also a number of hard hitting tracks from some other great artists. Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com

Ep. 051 - Here You Stand Beloved Freak

Looking back on 2012 (as is the thing to do at the end of the year), 2012 for me was definitely the year of Garbage. I didn't put together any kind of top whatever list of the year or any kind of retrospective - you've already heard about those adventures. The "Year of Garbage" is continuing into 2013 with Sons of the Silent Age in Chicago. What is that, you ask? It's a little project by Chris Connelly. Tune in for full details. Also on this episode: Emilie Autumn, Velvet Acid Christ and IAMX tour news. New music on this episode: Emilie Autumn, Velvet Acid Christ, IAMX, Tweaker, Panic Lift. Happy New Year! Ep. 050 - 50 Shows! Wow!

    Ep. 050 - 50 Shows! Wow!

Episode 50 has been a long time coming. I haven't been able to post as many shows this year as I'd have liked, but I wouldn't trade the crazy year of travel for anything. Thanks to everyone for listening. On this episode, new music from I:Scintilla, DRTY LVRS, Desdemona, Geodesique, plus a dirty Christmas song from Junksista and more great music. Also, I announce my 2nd annual 30th birthday party date and lineup. Full show notes and contact info at http://www.aztalanturf.com

Really great music-cast

I know it shouldn't feel intimidating approaching music outside your comfort zone, but it is. Aztalan Turf is a very approachable podcast that anyone can enjoy. Great mix of music, features on artists help listeners get to know new bands, and touring news are buttoned up here in one phenomenal show.

Great Variety

This is a great podcast. Renee came right out of the gates running with this podcast and has never looked back. Interesting mix of musical talent presented with the pleasant voice of the intelligent DJ makes for a very entertaining podcast. Highly recommended!

The Noise That Keeps You Awake

Ain't that the truth. I know this has kept me awake at work. Rene brings you a wide assortment of dark music, from industrial to metal with plenty of dark alternative in between. A veteran radio DJ, the Aztalan Turf Podcast has allowed her to go rogue and do her own thing. She plays what she likes, and what she likes totally rocks. That's not all. She gives you the skinny on who is touring, gives you a review of concerts she has attended, and even has the occasional interview with the artists. This is good stuff for any fan of underground music.
