If you have tinsel on the brain and mulled wine in your blood, this is the podcast for you. We’re living in a golden age of delightfully cheesy Christmas movies, and on Bah Humbug we examine the biggest new offerings this season, as well as looking back at classic seasonal favourites. Think Kurt Russell in The Christmas Chronicles 2, Dolly Parton in Christmas On The Square and Kristen Stewart in Happiest Season. Hosted by Helen O’Hara (the Empire podcast, His Darker Materials) and a rotating cast of film experts and guests, this will take a (mostly) affectionate look at the snowiest, coziest, Scroogiest, and Santa-iest films of all.

Spirited AND Scrooge: A Christmas Carol

Spirited AND Scrooge: A Christmas Carol

It wouldn't be Christmas without some variation on A Christmas Carol attacking our screens, and this year offers two new takes on Charles Dickens' classic story. So Victoriana enthusiast Sarah Cooke joins the pod to talk about both, and The Dickens Fellowship General Secretary Paul Graham stops by to explain what it is about this story that has made it such a hardy perennial. To quote the Victorians, it all makes for the jammiest bit of jam... If you want to check out the Dickens Fellowship for yourself please click this link https://www.dickensfellowship.org/

BONUS EPISODE: Emily Zarka / Krampus

BONUS EPISODE: Emily Zarka / Krampus

Another special bonus episode today, this time focusing on Christmas monsters. Dr Emily Zarka has made an academic study of things that go bump in the night, and as well as teaching her students how to survive the monster apocalypse (we assume) she's the host of PBS show Monstrum. We invited her to come in for a chat earlier this year about the Krampus, and all the many Anti-Clauses out there that threaten to punish the bad instead of bringing goodies to the good. Beware the giant Yule Cat everyone; after this episode it will haunt your nightmares...

    The Bishop's Wife 75th

One of the classics turns a sprightly 75 this year, so film historian Pamela Hutchinson and The Independent's film critic Clarisse Loughrey took the time out to talk Cary Grant, angels, having fantasies of someone tidying your office, and the many charms of The Bishop's Wife...

    Christmas Bloody Christmas

    Christmas Bloody Christmas

Christmas is not just a time for peace and joy; it also makes a great setting for mayhem. The Evolution Of Horror's Michael Muncer comes by to talk about this robot killer Santa Claus movie, while director Joe Begos drops in to explain just why he loves carnage.

DaffyN ,

Helen is the greatest

What are Helen O’Hara fans called? Helen-holics? O’Hara heads? Yellin for Helen? I dunno, but I’m one of them. Helen is the best, whether she’s talking about Christmas movies or sexism is Hollywood. Listen to this podcast!!!!

K Syd ,

Terrific as usual.

An intelligent, well-structured podcast about the struggles women face in the film industry. It is obvious how much thought and time and attention Helen and her guests have given to the subject. You will learn about the progressive ideas working their way into the industry, and also what you can do to help the cause.

Consuelo "El Hombre De Fuego" ,

A fascinating listen for all movie fans

Helen is always a balanced and insightful voice into the movie world, and this podcast is no exception. The conversations are always well thought out and worthwhile, while being kind and generally enthusiastic about movies and Hollywood silliness!
