The Mental Health Condition We Don’t Talk About Enough: Everything You Need to Know About OCD

The Mental Health Condition We Don’t Talk About Enough: Everything You Need to Know About OCD

#241: While anxiety and depression are commonly discussed, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) often goes unnoticed, especially among Black women, leading many of us to feeling hesitant to seek help.

In this episode, I’m joined by licensed therapist and Clinical Supervisor, Saraa Lee (LCSW) from NOCD, for a conversation about mental health, misconceptions in the healthcare industry, and how OCD can manifest into our daily lives.

Together, we discuss the ins and outs of OCD, Saraa’s experience living with the disorder, and why treatment for overcoming intrusive thought patterns has to be handled with care.

We also talk about…Early symptoms of OCD and why they’re overlookedThe difference between OCD and anxietyCommon types of OCD and their triggersWhy specialized, evidence-based treatment is more effective for OCD than talk therapyHow exposure therapy (ERP) works for OCDHow OCD can affect friends, family, and romantic relationshipsHow to support someone experiencing OCD

Resources:Follow NOCD on Instagram @treatmyocdIf you think you might be struggling with OCD and want to talk to someone, NOCD can help. Visit nocd.com to book a free call with their team and learn more about how working with a NOCD Therapist can help you start regaining your life from OCD.

This podcast has SO improved my life

It’s hard to overstate the effect listening to this podcast over the years has had on my life. I’ve read books I would’ve never have heard of that have given me better habits and systems; I’ve learned of new products and services that have me feeling more comfortable and confident in my skin; I’ve internalized her refrain about the importance of fitness and strength training in showing us we can do hard things. This podcast has changed my life for the better and I’m so thankful for it and Les!
