    Pop-Punk & Pizza #98: 10 Songs for July 2020

    Pop-Punk & Pizza #98: 10 Songs for July 2020

    Kailynn West of Tiny Stills.

    Hi, all! I hope you had a wonderful Canada Day and Fourth of July. My three year old son watched fireworks for the very first time in person and it was a beautiful thing to witness.

    It's the beginning of the month so, it's time to revamp our Spotify playlist! I must say, I think this is my favorite, "10 Songs", episode that I've done so far. I'm always blown by how much amazing independent music there is in the world. Also, for the very first time, a cover song is included on this month's list. Enjoy!

    10 Songs for July 2020:

    * "Paper Roses" - Honey Creek

    * "Let Go" - The Fallaways

    * "True Love Is Not Just A Pizza Tattoo" - Cleveland Avenue

    * "Confession Obsession" - Kill Lincoln

    * "The Kids Aren't Alright" - Miss Fortune

    * "Paris in 39" - The Midnight Echo

    * "Craigslist Bed" - Tiny Stills

    * "Masterpiece" - Winona Avenue

    * "Teacher's Pet" - Melody

    * "The Grind" - Panic Problem

    Also, I made a playlist of all ten songs you can listen to on Spotify:

    Pop-Punk & Pizza #97: Franky Tsoukalas & Jevin Kaye of Much The Same

    Pop-Punk & Pizza #97: Franky Tsoukalas & Jevin Kaye of Much The Same

    It was just last August when I discovered Chicago skate punkers, Much The Same, at 350 Fest in Tinley Park, IL. They were the perfect band to warm the crowd up for, The Mengziners, who would play later that evening. Most everyone in the crowd seemed to know who Much The Same was and sang along to the quick paced anthems. I was standing in front of the stage, to the right side, near the bassist, Franky Tsoukalas. I enjoyed the energy he brought to the band's set that day. He seemed like he would be a cool guy to talk to. After their set, I made a mental note to add, Much The Same, to my list of possible podcasts guests. Now, almost a year later, here we are! Talking to Franky, joined by drummer, Jevin Kaye. On this episode, we talk about the band's return after hanging it up in 2007 plus, the vinyl release of their debut album, "Quitters Never Win".

    On another note, Pop-Punk & Pizza Podcast, will be celebrating the release of it's 100th episode next month. I'm asking avid listeners and previous guests to share their favorite memories of the podcast or questions for me via voicemail at 312.529.0335. If you prefer to record a voice memo on your phone, you can do that to! Just e-mail it to: bangarangradio@gmail.com. I will comb through all the recordings and play them back on a special episode of the podcast. Thank you for all the love and support!

    Pop-Punk & Pizza #96: James VanOsdol

    Pop-Punk & Pizza #96: James VanOsdol

    If you're involved in the alternative rock scene in Chicago, there is a good chance you already know who James VanOsdol is or, have at least heard his name. Some know him as the host of the wonderful food and entertainment podcast, Car Con Carne. Others know James for being the host of local music radio show, Demo 312 on 101 WKQX Chicago. Regardless of if you know who James VanOsdol is or not (JVO for short), I think you will find this episode of Pop-Punk & Pizza entertaining. Today, we learn how he became, "The Voice", of local rock music in Chicago and what some of his favorite pop punk albums are. James is a genuinely talented person. We are very lucky to have him in Chicago and in the podcasting world.

    What do you do when times get extremely tough? You write emotionally powerful songs about those terrible life experiences. That's exactly what, Andrew Zamora, and the rest of the gang in Ontario, Canada's energetic pop punk band, Weigh The Anchor, have done with their latest single, "Medicate".  I was grateful to have talked with Zamora about what the song means to him and about how making wrong turns in life can still lead you in the right direction. This is only the second time I've chatted with a band from another country. It made me realize I need to do that more often on the podcast. Enjoy!

    Chicago's Sleep On It was about 10 dates into their, "Pride & Disaster Tour", when the whole country began locking down because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Guitarist and vocalist, Jake Marquis, explains what that was like for the band at the time and also what they've been up to since the lockdown began in mid-March. I've always thought Jake was a genuinely cool guy and he proves that in our conversation. We touch on lighter topics as well including movies, fitness, food and of course, music. Jake also explains what the writing and recording process was like for their most recent album, "Pride & Disaster." By the way, Sleep On It's lead vocalist, Zech Pluister, chimes in on the conversation a little too!

    Sleep On It's latest single, "Stay At Home". They will be donating money from streaming to The World Health Organization.
