    The Next Great Adventure

    The Next Great Adventure

A lot has changed over the past couple of years since Teegan and Lindsay have been cohosts of Beauties & Headcanons, and this episode we take a moment to look back and see how participation in this podcast has impacted our consumption of fandom and our acceptance of new and exciting things! Along with the discussion, we finally are divulging that announcement we’ve been teasing on social media this month, so make sure you tune in to get the scoop! Also, for Gaming Corner, Teegan talks about the newly announced DLC for The Outer Worlds - Peril on Gorgon - including its price point and how it’s helping to fill the gap until Cyberpunk 2077 gets released.

    Separating Fact from Fiction

    Separating Fact from Fiction

For this episode, Teegan brings on a special guest host - their very own husband, Lee! - to talk about the recent controversy surrounding The Last of Us 2's Abby. Regardless of how individual fans feel about her, her character arc is galvanizing and produces strong emotions in players, not all of them positive. Unfortunately, some players have taken to flinging death threats to the voice actor behind the character, Laura Bailey. This kind of fandom toxicity is, unfortunately, nothing new, as Kelly Marie Tran from Star Wars can well testify. Lee and Teegan discuss the separation of character from actor and just why it's so important to perhaps take a step back from social media before resorting to bullying and toxic behavior. While fans can certainly hold their own opinions, how they go about expressing those opinions is important to consider.

    Trope Discussion: Chosen Ones

    Trope Discussion: Chosen Ones

This week, Teegan had the pleasure of sitting down with Twila - one of Lindsay’s nerdy coworkers - to talk about the commonly-used “Chosen One” trope. From Frodo & Bilbo, to Harry Potter, to even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this particular trope has proved capable of being done well. However, in other cases - like with Mortal Kombat’s Liu Kang - the Chosen One seems pushed for no reason and above other characters, disregarding a true team dynamic and focusing on one character to the detriment of others. Make sure you join us as we discuss what we like and don’t like about this particular trope, along with a healthy discussion of stories and Mortal Kombat 12 possibilities!

    Modern Gaming and Its Evolution

    Modern Gaming and Its Evolution

Gaming and video games as a whole has changed significantly since its rather humble beginnings, and with next gen consoles announced already, Lindsay decided to sit down with Teegan and talk shop. From new offerings being advertised to differences in games now versus in the early 2000's, to even the stigma of "casual" gamers and why it's a bit of a ridiculous concept. Is anyone else excited to see what Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo have in store for the future? Sound off below! Also, though there is no Geek on Fleek this week, Teegan does discuss an interesting ending in The Outer Worlds that is only obtainable under certain key conditions, and thus makes all the difference when it comes to meaningful choices in RPGs.

    Voice Over Appreciation

    Voice Over Appreciation

In the world of animation and video games - and even the occasional live action film - voice actors bring life to the characters they portray using the power of their voice alone. Without the use of facial expressions and body language, they have to convey a whole character through tone and inflection instead. And while no doubt some voice acting power houses like Mark Hamill command a fair salary, many of them are offered a mere pittance as compensation for their work. So this week, Teegan and Lindsay dip their toes into the world of voice acting, discussing the different facets of characters, the dissonance they sometimes experience hearing two different characters voiced by the same actor, and how much more they have to work to make a decent living. Also in this episode, Teegan discusses corporate shenanigans once again with Gamestop, and there will be no Geek on Fleek this week in honor of the protests.

    Science Fiction vs. Fantasy

    Science Fiction vs. Fantasy

Fans have debated back and forth on whether or not Star Wars is science fiction or fantasy, and this week, Teegan and Lindsay are here to explain where it lies under the umbrella of speculative fiction and why! Using examples from the respective genres, once the groundwork is laid and the definitions explained, it may be easier to see why it is closer in genre to Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones rather than Star Trek and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Or does it? Let us know what you think below after giving the episode a listen! Also, Teegan talks about the recent controversy with Doom Eternal’s Denuvo Anti-Cheat system, and Lindsay discusses censorship taking place on the Disney+ streaming service.
