There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.

Introducing: Black Cowboys
Zaron Burnett’s dad didn’t want slavery to be his son’s only image of Black people in American history. So every night, he filled Zaron’s dreams with these incredible stories of Black cowboys. Despite what Hollywood taught us, one-in-four cowboys were Black. Their stories tell a bigger, braver, more honest history of America.

Customer Reviews
Quality listening
Informative, thoughtful, and well-researched. Unashamedly biased, will probably induce rage in people who strongly disagree.
One point of criticism: Sophie needs to work on “yes-and” if she’s going to regularly contribute, because her style is a lot more like “no-stop,” and that can be a comedy killer at times.
The best
All the way good
So close to great
I have such a love/hate relationship with this podcast. Robert’s topics are fantastic and I’ve learned so much from them, but Sophie brings the show to a grinding halt every time she adds another “look at me, look at my dog” comment. She knows nothing about the subjects being presented and adds no insight, but still joins in every episode. She even does it on Worst Year Ever. Be a great producer! That’s more than enough.
Robert’s best guests aren’t on much lately, and the ones who have been on just aren’t all that savvy or knowledgeable. (Thx for highlighting Jamie Loftus, whose Lolita podcast is a gem.) Please, Robert, this show and your side podcasts are a great service. Step it back up so you can get the accolades you deserve.
