What does a residency in Singapore Repertory Theatre look like? Terrance answers this by sharing his reasons for joining SRT, his experience as a directing resident and the journey ever since completing it.

Terrance Tan

A filmmaker, theatre director and writer, Terrance Tan graduated from Lasalle College of the Arts with a degree in Musical Theatre and is an alumnus of the Directing Residency at Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT).

Terrance is the co-founder of Bitesize Theatre Collective which aims to bring theatre to underprivileged communities in Singapore. His passion lies in exposing the socio-political power structures of society, questioning the nature of information and knowledge, and understanding mental health on stage.

About Our Guest:
Gaurav is the artistic director of Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) and has produced over 100 plays during his 23-year history with the company. Under Gaurav’s artistic direction, SRT was the first Singaporean theatre company on Broadway in 1998. This was for Golden Child, which went on to earn three Tony Award nominations. SRT has presented work by several renowned international artistes including Ninagawa, Complicite, Peter Brook, Yael Farber and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Gaurav also recognises the importance of education with SRT being one of the biggest commissioners and producers of children’s theatre in Southeast Asia.

Join Julie Wee with Paul as they discuss about Julie’s experience with acting in Singapore. Julie shares with us her start as a tv child actor, achieving her goal of attending an acting school (The Victorian College of Arts, at that) and advice to younger actors in the industry now.

About Our Guest:

Julie Wee trained as an actor at The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) Drama School in Melbourne.

Julie has played Cassius in Julius Caesar, Portia in The Merchant of Venice, Miranda in The Tempest, Hero in Much Ado About Nothing and Bianca in Othello. Her other stage credits include W!LD RICE’s Hotel and Romeo and Juliet (Juliet); Checkpoint Theatre’s Normal, The Good The Bad and The Sholay and The Way We Go; Toy Factory’s To Kill A Mockingbird (Scout) and The Crucible (Elizabeth Proctor), Skinned Knee Productions’ The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband, Our Company’s The Car and Take Off Productions’ Mosaic.

Her TV credits include series roles in Moulmein High, Light Years and the internationally distributed production A  Gurl’s  Wurld.  She  also  appeared  in  an  episode  of  the  Australian  soap,  Neighboursand was a scriptwriter for the Neptuno Films animation series Megaminimals.

Julie works as a host and  as  a  professional  voiceover  artist  who  runs  her  own  home  studio.  Companies  that  use  her  voice include Visa, SK-II, L’Oréal, Neutrogena and McDonald’s. Shane Mardjuki
Shane is ecstatic to once again be treading the boards at KC Arts Centre, the home of SRT.

Some of his previous works with the company include The Office Party, The Pillowman and The Snow Queen. He has also been fortunate enough to appear in a number of SRT’s productions of Shakespeare in the Park. These include Julius Caesar, Romeo & Juliet, Twelfth Night, The Tempest and Othello.

Tia Andrea Guttensohn
Tia is a multicultural actor, teacher, host, and co-founder of theatre collective, The Assembly Point. Being Singaporean and Austrian, and having grown up in Singapore, Switzerland and Hong Kong, everywhere and nowhere are home all at once.

Grace Lee Khoo is the Founder of Access Path Productions, a disability-led arts company in Singapore. She obtained her MA in Applied Theatre from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (UK), BA in Theatre Studies from the National University of Singapore and Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
