Fun and Interesting Facts for Gro-o-owing Minds!
This podcast is Gak-tastic! These Henrys’ and Junes’ are somehow able to take the goofy and wacky world of 90’s Nickelodeon, and really break it down on a professional sounding level. They talk about Nick, in the same way that I feel about it. It’s like talking to friends about the good old days, except these friends mostly only talk about Nickelodeon, and I don’t get to talk to them… they just talk to me… which is perfect.
For real though, I’ve been listening to The Big Orange Couch since almost the very beginning. I happened to discover them at the perfect time in life, when things at work had gotten pretty crummy for me, and being able to listen to them wax poetic on those glorious days really helped me keep my mind off all the negative things.
I have a very long hour and a half commute to work, twice a day, and it is so much more enjoyable when I pop this podcast on and just let Stick Stickly take me away to a better place. Or Gary, or Artie, or Bobby Budnick, or the freaking Jolly Olly Man, or… whoever it is that is up for discussion. The episodes are just long enough, and there’s such a large backlog of them in the archives to go back and give a re-listen too, if you’re waiting for that next episode to come out. But, you won’t be waiting for long, because one of the most impressive parts of the BOC, is how consistent they are with releasing new episodes! They really stick to their schedule (once a week in the first few years, now once every 2 weeks currently).
Joey and Andrew are great, and they usually bring along one of their friends as a guest. I’ve grown to love their whole gang! Even Chris! Haha, also, Melissa is just pure magic. They’re all great, and each brings their own interesting personality to the show. In recent months they’ve even involved some of their listeners by having them as guests on some shows too, which is pretty cool! You never know who will pop in? What will pop out? And it’s so good, you’ll eat it aaaaaaall up!
The sound quality is very professional, and they do an amazing job with editing the show. There’s tons of background music that fits with what they’re talking about at that moment, awesome audio drops from shows/etc., classic 90’s Nick bumpers, their own original segment intro songs and sometimes even totally rad 90’s commercials!
There’s a few different “types” of reoccurring episode themes you’ll usually get from these guys. There’s TV Episode Reviews, Full Season Reviews, Lists/Rankings (where they make their top picks for various topics), Vs. (where they debate one thing verses another), Game Show Watch-alongs, Write an Episode (where they make their own creations), Year in Review (where they go over all things from a particular year in the 90’s, and current years as well) and many other unique stand-alone episodes along the way.
I cannot recommend The Big Orange Couch enough. It’s one of only two podcasts that I never miss.
I’m Detective Dan.
Thanks for doing the podcast guys and gals!

This was my very first podcast guest experience! It was magical! It’s one thing to maintain, learn, update Weinerville knowledge, but it felt so great being on a show to actually explain it to people that care! It was a blast being on your show! Not to mention I’m going through more of your shows and you guys are great hosts!!! Love what you do and keep up the great 90s Nickelodeon memories!!!
