I am a traveler, cyclist, expat and teacher with over 15 years experience living abroad in six different countries. As a passionate cyclist I have seen the world by bike and has toured in some truly amazing places, such as Sweden, Germany, Japan, most of SE Asia and of course Canada.

During that time, I have traveled to over 40+ countries and met countless travelers, cyclists, and other expats. While traveling by bike, I decided that I wanted to connect the touring and bikepacking community together and this became the catalyst of the Bike Tour Adventures podcast where I share my guests fascinating stories and helps listeners learn tips, tricks, and techniques to improve their touring and bikepacking experience.

As it's not possible to always bike tour, I have recently dove headfirst into the bikepacking world with the intent of getting out into nature and spending as much time on my bike as possible. This has re-ignited my passion around bikes and has opened up the podcast to so many more possibilities with interviews of traditional bike tourers, bikepackers, endurance athletes and more.

I hope you enjoy the show.

In this episode of the Bikepack Adventures Podcast, I'm sharing the conversation I had with Aaron Prasad a little while ago. Unfortunately, it took a bit of time to get it put out as things got crazy for a short while. Now that things are a bit more normal, I happy to release this conversation and share Aaron's journey as a plant-based athlete, lover of Colombia and all things bikepacking. What initially began as a small cycling adventure has grown into a desire to learn more about the country, continued exploration and the desire to challenge not only the mind, but also the body. In January of 2024, Aaron decided that he would embark on an adventure dubbed the 25x25 project. 2500km with 25,000m of elevation gain riding a huge loop through Colombia. As things got going it slowly morphed into what is now closer to 40x40. Tune in to hear Aaron's story.

Scarlet & Flint Zeigler | Meadow to Mountain

Scarlet & Flint Zeigler | Meadow to Mountain

In this episode of the Bikepack Adventures Podcast, I'm excited to share with you a different type of adventurer. Namely, because she is so young, yet has accomplished some pretty epic adventures. When I first reached out to Scarlet and her dad Flint, they were immediately interested in sharing their journey on the podcast. Between Flint's job as a travelling musician and getting out on bike tours, Scarlet has been travelling and sleeping rough since she was a little baby. After graduating from tow-behind bikes, Scarlett started putting more and more miles into each adventure, having ridden the C&O canal, done a multi-week tour in the UK, and culminated the epicness of her adventures by riding the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route at the age of 13, beginning in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and ending in New Mexico, USA. Since the early days of Scarlett's bike adventures, this passion for two wheels continues to grow. I hope you enjoy this conversation as I go back and forth between father and daughter to try and catch the essence of their journey.

Kurt Refsnider | A Guide to Traveling the Iditarod Trail

I this episode of the Bikepack Adventures Podcast, I super excited to have had the opportunity to sit down with Kurt Refsnider, a professional ultra-endurance/backcountry mountain bike legend, record holder, route developer, advocate, cycling coach, geologist and also the co-founder and route director of Bikepacking Roots. If it's something bike related, there is a good chance Kurt has done it or is planning to do it. Some of Kurt's many cycling career highlights include but are not limited to: Winning the ITI, 8 wins and/or records on the AZT 300, 2 wins/records on the AZT 750, winning the Colorado Trail Race, winning the Tour Divide and finishing it 3 times, setting the FKT on the Kokopelli Trail 2 times, and setting the yet to be beaten FKT on the Grand Loop. With countless other adventures and races to his name, Kurt also became the first person to complete the Continental Divide Trail south bound. Kurt has recently finished writing a guidebook with all the important information you might want to know if you decide to take on the daunting Iditarod Trail. In today's episode, Kurt and I take a deep dive into touring this legendary route, going beyond just the gear that might be important to have, but also the preparation, logistics and mindset that you might need to account for. I hope you enjoy the episode.

This podcast changed my life in the best way possible!

This podcast led me to bicycle across Malaysia — so I give the biggest endorsement a podcast could ever achieve. I started listening to this when I was extremely new to cycling, and had only once in my life been on a ride that I enjoyed. (Before this podcast, I hated bicycling wholeheartedly). This podcast taught me first what bikepacking is, and then how to think about the logistics of existing on two wheels for weeks at a time. From small tips like using fishing line to secure a bike to a tent at night, to the type of equipment required, this podcast is filled with knowledge but in a way that is fun, engaging, and conversational without feeling at all like a textbook. The hidden tips embedded in the engaging conversations were more than enough information to equip me to bicycle 1600 kilometers solo for my first ever bikepacking trip, and I emerged addicted! The host is so humble, responsive, and engaging, and he even responded to my extremely naïve messages with specific tips and guidance on how to choose a bike, be safe, and exist (I didn’t even know how to use clip-in pedals before I arrived in Malaysia to begin). Last October I was injured training for a marathon at the same time as soon-to-be-graduating from university, and this podcast almost single-handedly gave me a goal, hope, and the sense of purpose that I needed to get through it. Listening to this podcast made me excited about biking in a way I never had been before, and brought me from being dead-last in a triathlon in Abu Dhabi to bicycling across two countries one year later. I am so thankful to this podcast for all that it is, and to the host specifically for encouraging and guiding me firsthand. He answered my questions based on his time living in Malaysia, connected me to the best bike shop in Kuala Lumpur where I bought my bike, and created a support system to look out for me by connecting me to the owner of that shop. I can’t emphasize enough how much I absolutely hated bicycling one year ago — and then now, I am in love with it and have brought my bicycle where I’m now working in Côte d’Ivoire, hoping to train for and plan a bikepacking trip from Botswana to Kenya next year. I am infinitely grateful to the host and to all the guests who inspired and guided me through many dark kilometers when I was struggling on my own in Malaysia— I never would’ve even taken my biking-across-Malaysia idea seriously if I hadn’t started listening to this podcast. And now looking back, it was the most difficult and absolutely the best thing I’ve ever done— all thanks to this podcast for the impetus to do it. Thank you so much for everything, and I am so excited for all that is to come.

Minus nothing

Good practical information.

Really great!

I’ve been meaning to take a trip for a long time and recently just bought a bike! I think it’s really nice to listen to peoples experiences on the road even if it is somewhere I likely won’t be touring for a long time. Really easy listening that someone with even basic biking knowledge can follow around with!
